I couldn't find a topic on this but was curios if anyone knows the history behind the naming of positions 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Straight, Cross, Slant? Also; Do the other positions have names? Sorry if this is on forum already and I just missed it.

Thanks

I've never heard a good explanation of the names. Straight harp is the original way to play them, so I guess that makes sense, it's the instruments 'default' position for Richter, what it was originally designed to play (good for Ompah music!)

Cross harp and slant harp aren't obvious though. Interesting question.
