Saw a program on TV just recently about Glen Campbell the great Country singer. I hadn’t realised that before he became famous worldwide he was an excellent session musician and played alongside some other great session musicians who were considered to be the best in the business and became known as ‘The Wrecking Crew’ and they laid down the music for some of the big artists of the day.
Another fact I hadn’t heard was that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and has now stopped touring. He released a single called ‘A better day’ which he co-wrote and is a snapshot of his life, hinting at his successes and failures (He hit the booze big time in his day) and his recent illness.
Anyway I wanted to share my take on this short song. I play a bit of rack harp at the start.
If you’re interested here is a LINK to a youtube vid of an interview with Glen and his wife on a Christian BBC show. At one point his wife was explaining that when she met him she found he had a drinking problem and Glen mischievously jumps in and says ‘Heck it wasn’t a problem I really enjoyed it’
Thank you for that Grey Owl. It was just lovely, made my morning here in NYC. Oh and I'm a long time fan of Glen Campbell's work in all the facets of his career.
Kinda sad to see Glen mellowed down with a preacher type wife. Hope he's happy but couldn't help thinking of Kesey's Chief Bromden . Bet he kinda misses the Tanya Tucker days. I have a 70's Glen Ovation 'round the house somewhere. Gotta dig it out-I so rarely play an acoustic anymore bein' a Tele junky

Great sound from my electro acoustic Ovation. Nice electrics (simple though, Volume pot surrounded by treble/bass ring)am enjoying playing it again sounds so much better than the expensive Spanish electro-acoustic I bought to replace it! Yeah two superficial top lacquer cracks, small rubber thingy to stop the guitar slipping of lap now missing, awkward battery replacement and I'd forgotten how heavy it is for an acoustic.
I'd like to know if that neatly arranged note board behind you is your honey-doo list for the week? Doesn't look like too much to get done by, oh, say, Monday.
