This about as good as any place to ask about amps,Ive built up a amp setup, thats kind of a frankenstein build,It wasnt really got to run this way but,It seems to work,But i was wondering some things about it.

Ive had it over a year but havent really opened it up,And today i had the opurtunity to get a little loud,Im not sure of the best settings ,Most times I just play though part of the rig,But am interested in hooking everything up as one,

I play my strat into a rp155,which I had set on about 50% output,I run that into a 15 watt tube amp (superchampxd)on a clean channell at 3 on the volume,

then I run a cable from the line out into,a Harbinger 60 watt solid state amp with the channel setting at 50% and the master volume 50%,the PA has 2 10 inch speaker, the amp has a 10 inch.

It was played in a average size bedroom no carpet,It was loud very loud to me ,It hurt my ears,I could only stand it for about 20 min,and turned it off,at which my ears rang.

Now I dont usually care for real loud playing and so what i think is loud might not be as loud as I might think,

My questions are

1,Is this set safe to use I dont want to hurt my stuff?

2what am I running in watts 75?

3.Sence im using a 15 watttube amp into the 60 watt solid state PA with that make,It 75 of Tube ,or is both? And does running the rp155 pedal in front of it all make for more watts as a pre amp,

4 what would be a good way to set this rig up settings wise?

I have a couple friends that play though half stakes,running 60 watt tube,heads,Im not sure if there 4 12's or 4 '10;s
But if I was to play a club with them, could mine get loud enough to keep up with them?

And also because my speaker 3 10'S can be put 25 feet apart give or take does that help with the overall loudness of my setup?

I havent taken it out yet Just the Super champxd jamming at friends houses,But i was wondering in a club could My Frankenstein rig work;_),any help greatly apreaciated thanks

If your ears are ringing it's too loud.

Or I'm too old.

I get those confused sometimes.

Watts stack funny. They aren't really a great way to tell how loud something is. I can't help you with the configuration. The most complicate I've ever done is amp through mic to PA. Remember, at a lot of clubs you can always mic your amp and run into the PA. Ultimately, it's what combination sounds like the sound you want to get. That may or may not be the sound I want to get.

thanks Nacoran,
the clubs ive been playing lately theres not a house PA,One of the guys with one of half stakes brings his own PA,but its not alot of watts and just wants vocals ran though it.

Im just really wanting to see how the setup stands against a 60 watt tube half stack,But dont want to bust my gear up trying;-)

1) Please stop playing or listening in any situation where it's so loud your ears ring. There's a point where the ring never goes away, as in never, ever, ever. It's torture every waking moment.

As for the rest, line out into the PA is not problem regards safety of the gear. That's what a line out is for.

RE: Watts. Manufacturers numbers are relative. Just because the label says it has more watts than the other guy's label don't make it so. More to the point watts relative to volume, again, is relative. Many things in the chain and the environment it's put in affect the perceived volume. In theory I would say your rig would just about keep up with a half stack but the half stack will more likely sound "bigger", depending on what the guitar player is putting into it.

Setting are purely a matter of taste and what you're going for. Some want dirty. Some want clean. If it sounds good to you its a good setting.

Spreading the speakers will obviously spread the sound. This may or may not be a good thing depending on situation and what your goal is.

Basically my friend, all the forums, professional gear tester magazines, and "What is that guy using" will do little. Focus on you and what you want. THINK about that, then how you might achieve it, then experiment, trial and error till you get something that works for you. Might be the latest shit hot cyber weapon or it might just be a Strat and a cord plugged into a little tube amp running so hot you can fry eggs on top and the speaker screaming for mercy.

Have fun.

thanks LSC,

I try and not be around loud noise along time,I allways wear some kind of ear protection when working in a shop.I just wanted to see if it was going to be played loud without my speakers making that weird noise when there being pushed to hard.

They seemed to handle it ,longer than my ears could, but i dont know how it would sound in a bar played that loud for awhile.

and was wondering is the rp155 and a preamp, running into another amp making a another preamp befor the signal hits the PA?And is that safe.

A friend tried to explain it to me like that and the way i understood it,that by preamping a amp preamping a amp,can make more watts than what might seem just adding up the numbers,

which makes me wonder how much that might put on my speakers.

And if it does not hurt them ,Im wanting to test drive it against my buddies half stake,Kind of like when you have a car you want to run up against a friends car at the local drags;-)

but i dont want to blow a engine so to speak;-)

Lol. Or that Cheech and chong movie where Chong has that bad ass amp wakes the nighbors;-)thats the sound im looking for;-)

No i like a clean sound most times,I have a tremelo and also a vibratone on the Superchamp I mix on the clean channell, here lately, and the pedal i have a preset setting for country, that to me sounds very bluesy,It has a deep clean sound little reverb and a touch of delay but not much.

that and a couple overdrive with reverbs, and a hard lead delay, and one weird one thats a gooffy waa waa type thing, and thats about all i use for guitar, the rest I have the Hunter harmonica patches on the rp155,which are great.for harp
