I'm working on restoring some MS system Marine Bands. Original coverplates, recent Blues Harp comb (restored and upgraded) and brand new MS system reedplates.
The MS Marine Bands were awful which was why they were discontinued, but being MS system, the reedplates can be swapped out for modern MS system ones. I am customising them and so far they are high-performance - a real tribute to what the MS system Marine Bands should have been.
I will be selling a four harp set in the next few months.

Jim, I thought your LLD had a brass reed on the bottom note. Is that a new one?
Rbeetsme, are those wooden covers? I love brass with a dark color to offset it.
I don't have a spot in my apartment where I can get good light (and still get a good angle for the picture), and not show clutter. I've been meaning to photograph a few of my harps. I've got a licorice turbolided harp, an orange comb with sunset stickers on it, a TurboSlide (orange/sessions model) and a couple other really pretty harps. I like clear combs with black covers. I once had a clear comb with Piedmont covers (with the paint still on them.) I really liked the way it looked, but Piedmont covers don't make good playing covers (pretty good for quiet practice though) and the gold painted letters comes off pretty after just a couple hours of play. I'd be interested to know what Lee Oskar does different. Their lettering on the comb seems to last forever.

I've built so many of them that I've lost track. Here are few.

My own brass combs, Manji reedplates, Promaster covers. My brother is going to meet Dan Aykroyd next week, so I made one for him.

Phil: Very sharp. At first I thought the combs were engraved but then I noticed the color coordinated labels, - but still - very very good looking harps!
You like the combination of Manji reed plates and ProMaster covers - eh? Also nice. ---------- Tom Halchak www.BlueMoonHarmonicas.com

Thanks, Tom. I had my first couple of brass combs engraved, but you couldn't read them. The brass labels work much better.

I don't think so. I was thinking of putting a paint in the recess, but I don't think it would work well.
