Yet another final mix from my band. On this one I play an intro and some accent/harmonies near the end on a C harp over guitar solos, which was all influenced by that spacey-sounding Spanish trumpet you'd hear on old Spaghetti westerns. If some of the guitar sounds familiar, it's because it's Malaguena(public domain)weaving its way in and out of the tune. That's also me on vocals.

There have been threads recently on which harp to use for what key of music;this one was a case of a melody popping into my head, then experimentation with different keys until it fit. So, while I didn't set out to play something in 4th position, it just worked out that way ;)

@ GH-when you click the link, it should give you the option to 'download' or 'play'. By selecting 'play' it should stream. But if this isn't working, I'm open to suggestions.

Awesome! Great song and great example of 4th position. I really like the lick melody you came up with. great singing too!

I love playing in 4th its very useful in a lot of popular music and freaking easy too. I never understood why more people weren't doing it. If you can play a 1st position you can play 4th position minor. A lot of the chording stuff carries over too.

you're band is tight btw, sweet stuff thanks for sharing.

NICE!

I employ 4th for many minor key phrasings, too. Especially good for declarative intro's and outro's and chording as you mention.
I'll use it for subtle overlays, fills, measure enders; but not loud. For solo's I usually play 3rd or minor keyed harp.

Nice Todd.
slightly related, there is a Danish band a friend of mine is in, called Grand Fiction (formerly funky nashville). They have spaghetti western influence and Mickey Raphael played on their last CD.

try homesick for the schlocky western sound with harp

Thanks! Our guitarist is of Puerto Rican descent, and has studied Spanish classical guitar, jazz, rock, etc. with Cranston Clements, so he comes up with some tasty stuff.

Very nice song, very good vocals. Personally, I'd have had the harp cleaner, higher in the mix, and moar of it! But subtle is good too. Well done Todd.

@ blogward-thanks much!
Unfortunately, I tracked that on a Shaker crystal thru my KJL amp, and it was fed into a single mic, which did NOT relate the true tone at all...I didn't redo the take, which I regret a bit, but we had enough nitpicking between the rest of the band, so i figured I'd let it be.

check out my 'first attempt at embedding' thread-I have Reckoning on there-MUCH more prominent harp!

Have yet to get round to YouTubing my FrontandCenter wooden shell crystal mic - if you get a chance, try one.

hmmmm, I will look that up at home! For my am540 and other non-blues stuff, I'm gravitating more to a stick mic, but I like the brown sound too!

I found an effect on a guitar multi-pedal once that made me sound just like a trumpet. I could never find the setting again. I could really hear the trumpet sort of riffs in your song. That really rocks.
