I'm planning on going to SPAH this year will probably wait till closer to summer to buy my ticket. Think this will be my 4th year in a row. In the past I haven't gone early or stayed after to explore the area, I might consider it though. I'm sure there will be a blow-off the night before that's been a bit of a staple.

I went in 2008 and 2010, and plan on going to SPAH again this year. St. Louis is about 3 1/2 hours drive time from my home, so travel expenses are low.
I don't think details are in place yet for all the SPAH activities. As Ryan noted, there has been a Tuesday night blow off for a while that is not formally part of SPAH, but has become traditional.
Local music is best tracked through the Riverfront Times.

The Tuesday evening Blues Blowoff - not yet planned - is an extracurricular event of specific interest to harmonica players.

I'll be there. I'm not sure if I will attend as a Vendor or a Participant. I tried to do both last year but was so busy in the Vendor's area that I could not attend a single workshop or other presentation. I think I missed out on a lot of fun.

I'll be there as a vendor, as usual.
Also - this year is SPAH's 50th anniversary and the 1st one under the leadership of newly elected SPAH president Winslow Yerxa. I'm predicting an excellent show!
I'll bet Winslow meant "is an extracurricular event of specific interest to diatonic harmonica players" or ""is an extracurricular event of specific interest to blues harmonica players." I can assure all that the entire event is of specific interest to harmonica players in general.

You lied to me! You told me last year that there would be times when we would be very busy and other times when we would be bored out of our minds. We were swamped from the time doors opened until they chased everybody out! Good thing I had the booth next to you so you could sneak out for an occasional puff.

I will be a last minute decision, but I am going to try and make it. I have a buddy I can drive with and we have a room to stay at at a different hotel.
I am going as a participant unless Hohner invites me to play at their booth again. I would really like to do something relative to rock harmonica, but my personal schedule is so ugly in August that it becomes a huge stressor to try and confirm my attenedance.

I had intended to attend this year since St. Louis is a mere hour and a half drive, and I took off work for the week of it well in advance.
Unfortunately, I had not thought to check the calendar for local events back then, and I came to discover that SPAH coincides with the Illinois State Fair. And since my band just got sponsored by Coor's Light a few weeks ago, we're probably going to be making several appearances in the Coor's tent that week....possibly one for each day of the fair's 10 day run. :-/
I'm disappointed that I'm gonna miss yet another SPAH, especially one so close to me, but this sponsorship came as a huge blessing to our band, and I can't skiv my responsibilities.
