Hi!
Recently I got a couple of Shure 545 SD mics at ebay, one made in USA and the other assembled in Mexico. The one from the USA came already in high Z configuration but I had to change the Mexican one to high Z. I am happy with them although the signal that I get from them is much less than the one I get from my modern Green Bullet. You can see them working in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbDE8_M-9_w (sorry, in Spanish). I have tried an old 545 from a friend which gives a much stronger signal, but that is ok to me.
Today I have tried them with a Memory Toy delay pedal that I have and I can't get any sound out of them, I don't know why. It works ok when I connect my Green Bullet but for some reason the pedal does not work with the 545s. Even the working led does not illumate completely when I switch them. Has somebody experienced the same problem? Any guess?
Thanks you very much.

Well, I just noticed that I have a stereo jack and it should be mono. I will rewire it tomorrow.

Do yo mean your cable has a stereo plug at the end? That's usually used for low impedance balanced wiring. Your mic may well be set up for low impedance. I looked at the specs for the pedal- it is high impedance with a mono jack. You should be using a Pin 3 Hot high impedance XLR to 1/4" mono cable - and the 545 should be set up for high impedance.. (The jumper on the back of pin 3 should be positioned so that the white wire makes contact with the pin, not the red wire.) ---------- /Greg

Also, EHX is known for using stereo jacks as switches (ring connects to sleeve to complete the ground) instead of a real switched jack. Probably what is happening is that your stereo TRS plug on your cable has the ring left hanging (not connected at either end), and so the jack in the memory toy isn't making the ground connection it needs to turn on. ----------

Thanks you very much for your answers. Today I cut the 1/4'' stereo jack, rewired the cable to a mono jack and after some trial and error I got everything working. I am getting a much stronger signal now and the pedal works :-)

You should still confirm that your 545 is truly set to high impedance. You WILL get signal from it if it is low. You will get more if it is high. Just turn the screw counter-clockwise until it seats all the way in the connector - then you can pull the connector out and inspect. They are shipped set to low impedance from the factory. ---------- /Greg

Hi Greg,
I have rewired the connectors to get its maximum output. The Mexican came in low Z but when I rewired the one from the USA I got a lower signal so I suppose that somebody had rewired it to Hi-Z before. Definitively my problem was with the stereo jack.
Thanks you very much,
Felip.
