Had and interesting conversation with MBHs favorite harmonica dealer the other day. he REALLY cares about his customers so he had a seriously valid question.
he stocks Marine Band Deluxe and Crossover replacement reed plates. these plates are identical (as far as i can tell) and inter-changeable. He says that Hohner sends him the same replacement plates no matter which model (Xover or MBD) he orders.
Crossover is 443 and has its own interesting tuning. Marine Band Deluxe is 442 Compromise.
even though i should own stock in Hohner i've never bought anything directly from them so i dunno. i told him to ask Greg Jones but did say i wouldn't be surprised if they were all Compromise tuned because most of us can't tell the bloody difference anyway.
arzajac? thoughts anyone?

I have absolutely no idea Mark, but that line did make me smile. I would imagine that most people just buy a new harp considering the price of new plates last time I looked.

heh, heh,:) personally i only notice if a harp is in tune or not, save ET tuning. i change my Gms to Compromise. Can't stand ET but the Crossover has just enough distance from it to please me.
the dealer just doesn't want anyone with Supermans hearing to say, "hey! wait a minute! i've been had!" ---------- MP affordable reed replacement and repairs.

Good Morning Harvey! well, it is morning for me in Honolulu.
He did that and obviously they are different. ca va sans dire :-). the poor guy talks to hohner reps all the time. they give him the run-a-round. it is quite possible that Xover tuned replacement reed plates are not available in the US at all.
oh well, i thought it was interesting. ---------- MP affordable reed replacement and repairs.
