My partner and I play quite a bit on the streets. it really helps to find a sympathetic small business owner or two that likes music and allows you to play out front.
In my neck of the woods ( Miami ) 50 just may chase you from public property. Your area may vary-but thats how it is down here

thanks Hobostubs-the Coconut Grove shots in the video are our usually busking grounds. We find a store or porch with friendly folks that have some electric to share and keep the Po-lice away
Feb 2nd we will be at the Luna Star Cafe in Norht Miami beach -but busking is our main stay-you are your own boss .

Busking question,In the video he say ,the can is out for donations, and that its free speech, but if you want to donate you can,and that he's not selling anything,

That got me to wondering,If you had some cd's in the guitar case for sale, would it be considered soliciating, cause now your trying to sell, and would it depend on the area, your working?

when it warms up im going to try it at a market down the road,Im going to have some Cigarbox guitars and Cd's,My town is pretty good about peddlers being able to set up,But was wondering about other places.

Miami you can't be on city property. Thats why we find a business or property owner that lets us set up on their property. You also can't block any entrances. We have cultivated some spots with good foot traffic and some shade,
Your town may be different. You can always have a sign that says Free CD with $10 donation if selling is an issue.

the town i live has been pretty good with letting venders set up,and sell stuff,But theres no buskers, and its a shame I live right at the lake and we get some tourist, not alot but some.Im wanting to set up at a market, this spring,Ive got everything ready, except a few more Cigar box guitars built, and i want to get a power inverter.

I think as longs as im selling something, and dont get to loud,It will go over at the flea market, going into the main lake area.

I know the people that run it,And there son is friend of mine who plays drums so I trying to talk him into sitting in.

Ive been gathering equipment and wood sheding, got some Cd's ready, keep sellling the Cigar box guitars as soon as i make them,But im slow at making also;-)

Im going to give it a try,Ive played alittle at the 2 bars out at the lake, but never busked it something ,i really want to do,It should be about warm enough in a couple months and hopefully I have the CBG's done and a inverter bought by then and See what its about;-)

Just gotta get out there and see what works 'cause where you set upon the street can really alter your sound. best is a porch or narrow street with a facing wall so you can get some fat tone without losing it to the ambient noise and space.

That's great, Hobostubs. It brings back so many memories. It made me dig out the following video, which I posted many years ago and had forgotten about. It's from the summer of 1988--25 years ago! Sterling in this video was 52 years old: two years younger than I am right now.

Note the 6ob at 2:43. In 1988, baby.

Thank you sir. I play drums, harp and vocals and my man Mark plays Banjitar and a tele every now and then.

We will be at the Luna Star cafe in North Miami on Feb 2nd if any locals are on the board. Most weekends we busk in Coconut Grove

On the street we usually use 2 Crate taxis if we can;t find power
