I'd say there's no "best bargains" unless you find some random local store in your area liquidating harmonicas or shop on ebay.

I've gotten harmonicas from musicians friend and The Instrument Store (through Amazon.com).

I have had good service using musicians friend. Every now and then I get a valued customer coupon/ Email and get 10 to 15% off my purchase. I usually try to save a list of supplies needed until I get $100 worth of them to get the free shipping deal. The year before last they ran Golden Melodies on sale for $19 each. I bought 5 of them I wish I would have bought 20 of them. I've had to replace several at $35 each. The inital cost of the sale price would have been worth it by now. Live & learn.
So far Iv'e got only good things to say about Musicians friend and Iv'e bought a lot of stuff over the years.

I've been using Coast2Coast for quite a while. They've always been prompt & efficient except for the Manji that's been back ordered almost a month. Suzuki must be selling a bunch of 'em.

Rockin' Ron's Music for Less (US). Good prices, free shipping, quick turn-around time and good service. I had an order take a little longer than normal, and he quickly responded to my e-mail offering to send another if it didn't arrive -- which it did. He carries most, if not all, Suzukis. Light on the Hohner stuff though. Also carries Seydel, Bushman, Lee Oskar.

I formally had good experiences with Harp Depot. But my last order, almost two months ago now, was never shipped even though they billed my credit card. They won't respond to my e-mails. So now I'm looking for an honest retailer.

Coast To Coast Music's reputation and from personal dealings with them has been consistently excellent as a whole. Frankly, for the Suzuki Manji, I'm not surprised at the back orders for them.

When I ordered the Manji directly from Suzuki USA, all of their retail orders went directly to Rockin' Ron's and so far, I have no complaints about them at all.

I ordered some replacement tubes from Harp Depot several months ago. I don't think they ever charged me, but they never responded to e-mails and I never got my tubes. I got my tubes from Antique Electronic Supply and will never order from Harp Depot again!

I miss my local music store that went out of business a couple of years ago.
More than once I went in and purchased harps that had been sitting in their drawer for years and paid way less than the current price.
Now days it's either Guitar Center (in an emergency) or the internet.
Now days the mom and pop stores seem to have gone out of business.
I do have a choice of five different Guitar Centers within a 15 mile radius.
Around here they're the Starbucks of music stores.
I think that Guitar Center and Musicians Friend are owned by the same giant corporation.
Don't get me wrong, I like Guitar Center.

I used to order harps from The Best Little Harphouse but apparently they are now defunct. Harmonicasandstuff.com (USA only) has fast service (I got my harp in 2 days), but they, like about everybody else, have recently raised their prices on most everything. For Hohner players, amazon.com is now selling Hohner harmonicas directly with free shipping on orders of $25 or more.

last one I bought was recently when I saw a few LOs for £10 each in a local music shop that was stopping stocking harps. I got an Eb as my other Eb was a merano. :^(
don't use Eb often, but did the other night at a jam with a jazz band. [horns like Bb].
I did think about buying the othe r4 harps he had and putting them on ebay, but I couldn't be bothered.

By the way, what is the problem with Harp Depot ? Paid 150$ for harps that never came, no answers to my mails... Seems like I'm not the only one.
If someone has a clue about what is happening to this once recommended shop...

I also want to put in a good word for Rockin' Ron. I ordered my first harp from there last Friday and it came on Monday and the shipping was free. I live about 1800 miles from San Diego ( the Rockin' Ron location ). Way to go Rockin' Ron.

In Australia it is hard to beat MandoHarp on price and service. It's an online store run by Dane Clarke who comes across as a real good bloke! Pity that our prices were not as cheap as the US - hey but thats life!

Before the financial world went into meltdown I used to get harps from Doc at Harp Depot. I could not really fault the service back then although some did complain. Price was good, delivery cheap & fast, and our dollars were in unison. All that has changed.

With Mandoharp prices are comparable with US online stores taking into account exchange rates & the increased cost of shipping. Compared to UK prices ie Harmonicas Direct is competitive on some items however when it comes to eg Suzuki product MandoHarp is much cheaper.

Unless prices go really out of whack and it again becomes considerably cheaper to shop overseas I will continue to support the local guy.

I go to a couple local shops if it's just for basic stuff, but no one in the area seems to carry anything but L.O.s and Hohners. When I find sites online I bookmark them, even if I don't end up buying from them. Here is what I have in my list. Anyone have comments on any of them?

Harp Depot : AVOID !
(cf supra)

I've had good experience with The Instrument Store http://www.theinstrumentstore.com (good for suzukis).

And no need to say, Harponline (http://www.harponline.de). If you haven't found it yet, there's a good chance that you'll get it there. Not the cheapest, but the service is a breeze.

I use Suzuki harps. Rockin' Ron is the man.

Another Coast2coast customer. Dependable, good selection, and they communicate very well if there is an issue. My experience.

Called me to tell me about an online store that has amazing prices for Hohner harmonicas but there is a catch.
www.godirectmusic.com
They charge $10 shipping for orders under $100. However, shipping is free on any order that is $100 or more.
Golden Melody = $25.99
Marine Band = $23.99
Special 20 = $21.99

At these prices it worth buying $100 worth
For what it worth...

Rockin' Ron all the way!!! I live about a 5 min. drive from him. He does NOT have a retail location and I've never asked to pick up a harp from him @ his house, but he calls me on my cell phone when harps come in that he knows I like. He's also stocked some that he didn't have so that I could buy them from him. I find that Ron has the best price around and he gives quantity discounts as well! I ONLY BUY FROM ROCKIN' RONS MUSIC 4 LESS!!!!

I went to Harp Depot because I remembered the name. The day after the order, i looked into them a bit more and got a little worried. Order came through in less than a week.

Last Friday at noon, I put an order for a crossover in at Coast to Coast. About five minutes later i got a shipping confirmation email about five minutes later and teh harp arrived today (Tuesday).

Other than that, Guitar center seemed to drag out more than a week for common keys of LO.

The Instrument Store on Amazon is just a little bit faster, usually taking about a week from order to arrival.
