Seen this before. I think it is a cool idea. It solves a difference problem. The Ultimate 57 is still much lighter and incorporates a volume control - better for harp as far as I'm concerned. Given the volume control they're price equivalent as well. ---------- /Greg

I think I'd have trouble cupping that properly. Now using it to mic up an amp....I can definitely see applications for it along those lines. ----------

It's just an elbow joint to a SM57. I see plenty or use for that. How about a retro fit kit sold with a buletizer Mr Heumann?

what a great idea! now you can stand around the corner and play, making it much harder for people to throw things at you.

You can find Greg's prices here :) http://www.blowsmeaway.com/ultimate.html
I am wanting to get one badly. Just have to find the extra cash. Mainly cause I want the whole kit with the wireless rig as well. Might as well do it in one swoop hehe. ---------- Dr. Rev. Mr. Cheeks Miller My Electronic Music World

So if I turn in my working, brand new 545, I can potentially get a discount on a Ultimate 545. I wish women came in the way that these mics do. I am very interested in that volume control because I have a hard time managing my 545. But I am getting off topic. I'd probably need a better amp personally before a microphone. ---------- Hunger is the best spice.

@Afro Blue
Good thing about the Ultimate mics is that they have more than one application. I've kinda been wanting one to use as my vocal mic on my stand, and the volume knob would give me an adjustability factor for when I wanna play clean harp straight through the PA without blowing out the rest of my band because my mic is set for my vocal levels. Even if you're feeling like you need an improvement in the amp department, an Ultimate, or even one of Greg's inline volume controls could be a good, and versatile investment.
@Greg
You have a few additional Shure mics you can Ultimatize on your site. What about an old Shure SM78? I think for all intents and purposes, it WAS just a 58 in a shorter body for handheld vocal use. I think maybe Roger Daltrey used one for his swinging mic routines. ----------

Hawkeye - I've never seen an SM78. If the threads (where the cartridge screws into the barrel) are the same - then it should be Ultimatizable.
I have ceased to be amazed every time I hear about a Shure mic model I've never heard of before. They have had so many models over the years - new old ones pop up all the time. ---------- /Greg

I'd have to take a look. The 78 belongs to our lead guitarist, and it's pretty beat up and rusty. He pretty much just uses it to mic up his Bandmaster's cabinets. I'll let you know. ----------
