I also use to get requests for the William Tell overture, but the girl that requested it has now moved away. It always went down well, me playing and her 'dancing' mind you I couldn't watch her as I laughed so much I couldn't play :^)
Not that I gig, just open mics.
Another request I get is "shut up and **** off" but I don't know that one ;^)

i don't know how many times i've heard, "do you know Train, Train?" Whammer Jammer is often requested. Mustang Sally is the most requested non harp number, as Reed Squeal pointed out. Nice handle, Squeal:)

If you're talking not about a harp tune per se, but about the tune that people have actually requested that I play in club contexts (as opposed to concert contexts, where they wouldn't get the chance during the set to request a tune), the answer's easy: "Happy Birthday." That's what people ask for. It's somebody's birthday and they want a general singalong. So if you're a harp player, you damned well better know how to play that tune.
Our most requested song is "Happy Birthday." We do two versions, a lowdown thumper style and one with a distinctive New Orleans rollicking beat. These versions keep it interesting, allowing us to play several verses and build it up for the Birthday boy/gal. As Adam says, if you don't know this, well, learn it. Always focuses the crowd and brings them in on the fun and everyone sings along and pays attention.
Our second most requested song is "Mustang Sally."
first song I ever played for a tip was an a capella- me on harp and vocs only- Texas Flood. The kid who asked for it and gave me his only dollar went on to learn that Texas guitar slinger style.
We used to get "Mustang Sally" all the time. "Stormy Monday". I try to not do a lot of requests these days but "We know another one by him" is often heard from my mic. ---------- http://www.reverbnation.com/jawboneandjolene
When I was in bands, it was Whammer Jammer, Room to Move and LAZY, the tune by Deep Purple. ---------- Ted Burke http://youtube.com/watch?v=-VPUDjK-ibQ&feature=relmfu
i've played John Mayalls 'Room to Move' several hundred times. you get to use your F# in second position. the lick and beat sorta sounds like 'Tequila' by The Champs. ---------- MP affordable reed replacement and repairs.
