I received a couple of combs in my stocking the Christmas :)
but I don't know what screws to use. I have drilled my own for plates and covers (backing screws) but these combs need sleeves and screws.
Any help as to what I need and where to get it?
THANKS!!

Looks like it's a Marine band Deluxe type comb to me. I think screws from any of the Marine Band models will fit it. Deluxe/Crossover etc. I drill mine out and use MS screws for the cover plates, which I think will also fit (I'm not entirely sure though).

I order them straight from the Hohner shop.

Do yo know who made it? Can you ask them?

Or you could buy a deluxe and just change out the comb, if it doesn't fit you still have the harp with the original comb.

Since you drilled the plates yourself, you can use anything.

Do you want to tap the plates so that you don't use a nut? In the long run, it's cheaper. It's also easier to put together.

What size holes have you drilled?

You can use stainless 10mm M2 screws. I like the phillips-head ones. You can use those screws and nuts for both the reedplates as well as the coverplates.

To tap a hole for an M2 screw, you can use a regular 1/16th inch drill bit - for other sizes you need to buy a particular sized bit. An M2 tap is about $10. A pack of 50 M2 Nuts is just over $3.

On the other reedplate, use two bit sizes up to drill the clearance hole.

But you can use any size machine screw. 0-80, 1-72 or 2-56 (if you don't use a tap with 2-56, you will be using really big nuts on the reedplate and it may not fit if your hole is too close to the reed pad). You can use M1.6 or M2 screws. I like metric because you can get 10 mm length. It's the perfect length for coverplates. I really don't like screws sticking out the bottom of both sides of my harp. 12mm is also a good length if you want your reedplate screws to act as a coverplate support.

You can use Stainless or brass. I would avoid plated.

arzajac, yes, I followed your lead for all the parts pieces and strategies. My confusion is that the holes are so wide that I would need a different screw with a sleeve. I guess I just need to try the 10mm M2 screws I have -it just looks like it would make for a very sloppy fit.
I have not tapped because the $ difference is marginal enough that I'm happy enough to add the nuts.

A sloppy fit is a good thing. You may not have drilled your holes perfectly on target, for one.

The other is that you can adjust the comb to your preference. Some people like the comb to be a little recessed, just like an out-of-the-box Marine Band. Some like it flush. If the comb has rounded tines, some people prefer it to protrude out a little.

When putting your harp back together, here is an easy method for getting everything straight. Put the plates on and stick the middle screw through the hole. Apply the nut and advance it until it is close to the end, but the plates are still loose. Do the same with the other two screws.

Then, stand the harp up with the tines down on the surface of the table and tighten the screws. Make sure the harp is not leaning on one side or the plates will not be even.

It's easier to do it this way rather than doing it in mid-air. If you don't have a nut driver to hold the nut, you can wet your finger and the M2 nut will stick to your fingertip long enough for you to get it on the screw.

You don't want a ten-second reed adjustment to take five minutes because it's difficult to get the plates back on the harp straight.

Littoral - Like Arzajac said M2x10mm is what you need. I'm looking forward to my Golden Melody acrylic comb arriving from Tom. It'll be interesting to see if there's much difference to the harp response compared to the stock comb.
