Smoky Greenwell doesn't seem to get the attention that he should. Fabulous chops and tone and certainly not afraid to let his harp speak for itself on his many instrumentals. I really like his use of different tones for different songs. Knowing full well that tone comes from the player I'm wondering what kind of gear uses for club gigs and on tour. Anybody familiar with his stuff? All the best, Jay ---------- Music speaks where words fail.

Smoky plays Marine Bands, mostly stock, and uses one of two Harp King Amps. He has one with 6 speakers, and one with 4. I personally like the one with 4 better. He used a Shure 545. ----------

Thanks, Harvey. I really like what Smoky does. Very nice to hear harp instrumentals that sound fresh but still traditional at times. Love the way he changes up his tone for different styles. Hope to hear him live some day. Jay ---------- Music speaks where words fail.

@Harvey
I believe Smoke told me he also uses a Fender Princeton Reverb for some stuff. I think he said that was the amp he used on Premium Smoke. ----------

You could be right about his recording gear. I will ask him. ----------

I could be wrong about the Fender model, but I know he said Fender. At any rate, I agree with both of you boys about Smoky. He's a badass player. I honestly could listen to his stuff all day, and on a few road trips, I actually have. :-) ----------

Here's his site:
http://www.smokystore.com/1SmokyHome.htm
But he doesn't list anything about his rigs that I can find. He IS selling his harp of choice (MB1896), as well as Lee Oskars. ----------

I have been friends with Smoky for over 20 years, he is a great guy. When he let me sit in on his Harp King, it was the best I've ever sounded. I fantasize about owning it and hiring a roadie one day. I do have a Kinder AFB but never seem to be able to really get that sound.
