We can't change user names. We've had that request, and looked into it, but the site doesn't let us that deep into the software.

You can, however, reapply. We can then delete your old account (all your posts stay up, but the new account doesn't 'count' them towards your # of posts). Just like before it can take a day or so to get approved. We ask that people only have one account. We had, back in the bad old day, some problems with sockpuppets. That's also why we ask for your real name when you register. Using a false name on your registration is grounds for banning because of that. (You don't have to make your real name public, but you have to use it to initially register.)

We also suggest putting something in your tag to identify yourself, like 'Formerly known as' at least for a while. We are usually happy to do this once. After that it gets to be a pain. The server page with all the member info takes a long time to load, and it's only got so many members per page and we have to try to guess based on what letter your name starts with where you are in the data base. Each page can take a couple minutes to load and with literally thousands and thousands of registered members that can take a bit.

We can change your password (we can't see your old one, we just type a new one in and send it to you) and we can update your email for you, which we encourage anyone who no longer uses the email they registered under to do. The email you give us doesn't show up in your profile unless you put it there, only the admins see it, but sometimes we use it to talk to someone off forum about problems on the forum without calling them out in public. If that issue comes up and we can't contact someone it can end up in them being banned.

Sorry I couldn't be more of a help. :)

edit: Also, you have to send a request from your old email or do it on list so we have proof people are who they say they are when they request it.
