As I've played I've tried to try new harps. I started with a Blessing Tremolo, then cheapo Piedmont Blues, a Bluesband, a couple Blues Harps, a set of Huang Musettes, a couple Lee Oskars, a Golden Melody, a Special 20 and a couple harps cobbled together from spare parts. I wonder what else I should try. I know, I know, a Marine Band of some sort, a Seydel, maybe something in a chromatic, what else? (Everything so far has been Richter tuned except the tremolos.)
The "Standards" as I understand:
Hohner Marine Band (Standard, Deluxe or Crossover) Special 20 Golden Melody Blues Harp
Hering Vintage 1923
Seydel 1847 (Standard, Silver, Silver+)
Bushman Delta Frost
Suzuki Manji
Tombo Lee Oskar
Harrison B-Radical

Re: Seydel Don't limit yourself to just the 1847, try a Solist Pro and a Blues Session too.
Gotta try a Suzuki Promaster too.

Delta frosts and Solist pros are my favorites along with the Special 20's (which you haev tried). I am waiting to try out a Manji. Got to say, hohner Special 20's are pretty consistent. I am a member of H.A.R.P. (philly harp club), and a lot of the better playing members there us Golden melody's.
Sorin, I think Bushman does some tweaking as i have both the blusemaster and delta and I feel teh deltas are more consistent. But you are correct as i understand it - reed plates are the same.

It seems to me the better I get at playing the less it matters which make/model harmonica it is as long as it's pro grade.
Edit: Well that and there's a definite difference in tunings like ET vs. JI .

The older you get the less it matters but Golden Melodies are my choice..

I find myself grabbing the marine band the most when i just want to jam alone. It's smaller than my other ones, lighter..maybe cheesier, but it plays great and sounds great in my ears. My next full set will be Marine bands, unless the manji just blows it out of the water.

I think Lee Oskar's it's nothing that you should try , crappy covers ,short slot , if you want a short slot Suzuki it's the way to go .

I've been curious about this: What are the functional differences between harps with different length slots? And why don't different keyharps have different length slots?

The Oskars seem to have pretty responsive reeds, but the square holes on the ends catch my mustache hairs. The etching on the Golden Melodies seems rough on my lips.
I was trying to configure a harp on the Seydel site. I'm hoping to get a couple harps, maybe a LLF. I was also thinking about the possibility of getting something half-valved.
The Seydel site seems to offer the most configuring options, but unless you go step by step through the 'Configurator' it's hard to tell what is possible. I was also thinking about trying something with a different tuning; I heard a Spanish tuned harmonica on YouTube the other day. It would be great if some company would come out with a cheap variety pack of tunings to make it easy to try several tunings.
I've tried plastic and wood combs. I prefer plastic, but before deciding on that for sure maybe I ought to try to really sand and seal a wood harp. Haven't tried a metal comb.
I really like the shape of the Golden Melodies. I don't have huge hands and some of the other models kind of jab me a bit the way I hold it.

Lee Oskars - I have one. Do not like the tone. BUT it is reliable, responsive, and spot on tuning. Mechanically the best harp I have. The tone is a bit tinny.
