Maybe nobody had the answers. I know I'm not familiar with this song.

Soot,

I think I'm probably speaking for a lot of experienced players when I say that it can be exremely difficult to work out what's going on on many recordings, even when using the Amazing Slowdowner at 10%. So, you're not alone in that regard.

Have you heard Adam talking about what's happening on Whammer Jammer: he has problems figuring it out and he's not exactly a newbie.

I wouldn't waste time or worry about mimicing anything exactly; well, not if it's taking up too much time and taking any fun out of practicing. More and more stuff will 'click' in time if you just keep playing and listening. A couple of months is nothing.

Dude, you have put in an order for some work that people might not readily have information or time for.

As you are finding out, it can take time to work out a song. Many times (especially as a beginner) you do NOT have the chops for it yet. Copying a master harp player is no easy task and never done in one sitting. You will find that as you harp playing improves and you return to a song you though you had mastered, a whole new world of subtleties opens to you.

I did not know this song. Muddy did many great songs, but this one is way down on the list - plus you picked a live version. I listened to a short snippet on amazon and yes, it is a C harp in 2nd position. As for the rest of your questions, i could only hear 30 seconds so i could not answer it.

It is going to take you some time to develop an "ear" as that comes with lots of listening and wood-shedding.
You will be able to pick out more and more. If you cannot hear it now, you just need more practice time.

P.S. People on this forum bend over backwards to try and help. I suggest you keep your sarcasm to yourself.

Agreed,Soot, sarcasm won't get you anywhere but a fight here...

As a relative beginner myself I have run in to the problem you're having but after listening to Adam's lessons and reading a lot on this forum I've figured out that I have to go in a different direction. Rather than trying to figure out exactly what Mr. Cotton is doing on a particular solo I try to "hear" what he's playing and then come up with my own piece that, to me, works. I don't hit all the notes he does, or come close to nailing all the nuances, but I try to come up with something that I can play that fits the same mood, similar tone, etc. THEN, as I alternate between playing and listening I find I can pick up more of the small nuances and add them in where I see fit.

The other method ("Parrotting" back the exact notes, etc.) was frustrating me because a) I couldn't hear it all and b) when I could I couldn't play it anyway. I'm having a lot more fun with this new method.

I don't know if it's even available commercially yet but there is supposed to be software that can pull out individual instruments from a piece of music. It might help you hear the harp more clearly.

"Unfortunately these days some people would rather spend ten minutes writing dribble than listening to some music.
I do appreciate the *useful* information amongst the dribble..."

So its up to all of us to stop what we are doing, go dig through old record stores or I-tunes and buy a song we don't have and tab it out for a new-comer who only has a couple of months of woodshedding under his belt? And if we don't, we are the assholes?

Your bad manners are exceeded only by your bad manners, sir.

Well, those of us who read your opener, before you deleted it, will remember that you asked for someone to tab out an obscure song, That is a big request, especially from a newcomer with no previous posting history. You know it would have been nice if you'd dropped in with an introduction and perhaps joined in some of the topics that you felt comfortable with. Instead you just waded in with a big request and then threw your toys out of the pram when no one immediately jumped when you clicked your fingers.

Manners go a long way, even when you can hide behind internet anonymity.

Welcome to the forum.

Soot,
My wife doesn't think I'm charming at all anymore, even though I was some-what hilarious before we got married.

I find it hard to believe you were ever "hilarious".

MrVerylongusername..another bastard who can take time to dribble shit but not lend a helping hand..thanks for the warm welcome. It is easy to hide behind anonymity isn't it? I hate to break it to you but we have actually met in person before. Have fun licking the kfc off your fat fingers and jacking off to your porn later on you tubby shit!

Don't bother replying, I wont be back!
