At what point in a blues career does it become mandatory to own and wear a leather waistcoat?

I've been playing for 1 year now and as yet haven't felt the need. Is it only a matter of time?

What I'd like to know is, when would it be OK to introduce "Sonny" into my name?

Sonny Tooks or Little Sonny Tooka would be nice. I suppose I will need a hat and waistcoat.

All I know is, the first time I wore a fedora I felt unworthy of the hat. Then the hat performed true magic and i cut loose like never before. It was a great gig, and I owe it all to the hat. Every gig, the band makes me wear the hat now. I even have the lead singer wearing one. Who knows, we may look like a full-blown blues band eventually. Get the hat first.

@Andrew, that makes me "Lactose Intolerant Terra Missou McCormack". It just doesn't roll off the tongue.

My other 'disability' is that I have no sense of smell (honest!). That's still not very bluesy, i.e. "Olfactory Dysfunctional Fudge Brownie McCormack".

I saw a guy the other day wearing a leather jacket and i thought that looks pretty cool, i then saw a guy wearing a leather waistcoat and thought that is NOT cool, so i guess its the leather sleeves that are cool.

My favorite quote (maybe I heard it here)

Play a song on the harmonica for a man, and he will be happy for a day.

Teach a man to play the harmonica, and he will go out and buy a bad hat.

walterharp- that site told me I'm 'Peg-Leg Eyes Davis'.

Personally, a better description might be
'Fat-Nat Crazy' or 'Fat-Nate Blue' and the Alsorans.

I think I've seen Adam wear one. He's a runner and can pull it off..I might look more like the guy above...okay, not quite, but close enough not to do it.
