When I was out in Salt Lake City over the weekend to play a couple of gigs, somebody loaned me one of these: a 10-watt Moder 1432 from around 1960:
Silvertone amp
It had a great sound--truly great--with my Shure PE5 mic. Do other people here use these amps?

I played through a 1432 at a music shop in Terre Haute a few years back with my old Bluesblaster. I have to agree with you Adam. Those little suckers are gems. Matter of fact, the one I played was very similar in tone to that Lectrolab R500 I sometimes use. I'm also kinda curious as to what the Danelectro badged equivalent to it might have been if they issued one.... ----------

Rod Piazza has one & used it on the Alphabet Blues album, probably on certain other tracks too. It is a highly regarded harp amp. ---------- www.myspace.com/markburness

I own one that I rebuilt a wooden cabinet for. I don't use it too often, but love it none the less.
Adam, Did you happen to notice what kind of speaker was in the one you used? Mine has a Weber 12A125O. I usually bridge the two channels.

I bought a silvertone bass amp in 1965 because it was cheap. It was a good amp and I should've kept it, but at the time bread and milk was more important. ---------- Wisdom does not always come with old age. Sometimes old age arrives alone.

i have twin 1482's here, one for my harp and one for Jolene's guitar. mine has a speaker upgrade and a couple of pre amp tube swaps. it's really great tone wise and keeps up fairly well even with the 4 piece i am part of sometimes. it also shines nicely at lower volumes. ---------- http://www.reverbnation.com/jawboneandjolene

I`ve got a little brother of this amp. It`s a Rickenbacker Electro M-8 E from around `59. It also has multiple(2) inputs. I`ve recently run across a suggestion that if you stick just a empty plug into the unused jack it boosts the volume...and it works! Anyone try this?

Someone once told me that all of the Silvertones were made by Danelecto, designed by Albert DeVere Silva here in Indiana. His nephew is a notable amp tech from Indianapolis, Kevin of Uncle Alberts amp repair. http://www.unclealberts.com/history.html

I also read this: "Up until 1965 Radio & Television Equipment Co and Electro String were distributors and manufacturers of a range of musical items including Rickenbacker. Similar to Fender and Gibson at the time they had dealerships in various areas which precluded them selling their wares to other stores in the area. Now to get around it they rebadged the equipment under another name. Fender - > White, Gibson - > Epiphone and Rickenbacker - > Electro. Unlike now, these items were built on exactly the same production lines as the main name items to the same standards. Now in the case of the Electro M-8E it gets even better, because there was a change between the Rickenbacker M-8 and the Electro M-8E, they swapped the 6AV6 pre-amp in the Rickenbacker for a 12AX7 in the Epiphone. Did I hear someone say Fender Tweed Champ – yep exactly the same valve and speaker configuration. True point to point wiring, check out the chassis shot. This is what vintage valve amp hounds rave about. The circuit uses a 5Y3 rectifier, 12AX7 (7025) pre-amp and a 6V6 power valve."
Champ in a suitcase for around $200, not the $2000 for vintage tweed Champs.

I have a Danelectro Commando, label is missing, likely labeled Montgomery Ward. Still sounds like a LW amp!

Love the 1432. Got a pair of them. Going to make one of them a 2x10 one day. Fantastic harp amps.

"Dano made amps for Montgomery Ward/"Airline", Supro and National also."
Monkey Ward for sure....but I thought all of Supro and National's amps were Valco built. ----------

I don't have this one, but I've got one made from the late 40's that's killer for harp or if you play guitar tuned to open D and play slide, you've got almost instant Hound Dog Taylor. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

JD is right, I have seen Supro amps that were definitely produced at Nate Daniels' Red Bank NJ, Danelectro factory. Not the norm, but they are out there.

I gotcha.
Sidenote on this topic...that Dano DS100 (Dano badged version of the venerable Silvertone 1485) that I had posted for a friend in the for sale thread finally sold. Oddly enough, I got an email from the tech in Iowa who's now working on it asking if I had any insights on rebuilding the reverb. Small world.
