I haven't posted in some time now, I know. I've been in training for my new position at my office and haven't had a great deal of time at home to post either.

But I just made a deal today that made me make a little time to post because A: I can't resist sharing...and B: I'm curious to see if anyone else has one.

I just made a trade in at my usual local music shop. I finally bid my reliable Peavey Vypyr 15 adieu. What I put it toward is an Alamo 2566 Fury.

I havent taken any pics of it yet because I made the trade on my lunch break and haven't had the time. But she's about a 25W, single 15" bass amp running on a single AX7 preamp and a pair of 7868 power tubes. She's in VERY good shape, just needs a dusting and a solder-joint once-over, and probably a three-prong power cord mod.

Anyone have one of these babies? I'm anxious to get her spruced and screaming.

Hawkeye, I owned one a few years ago. It was a nice little amp. Sort of Champlike as I remember. I think I sold it while financing some other project. You will be happy.

MJ, is it rectfied by diodes? Is that why it only has three tubes? And you wouldn't happen to have a schematic for it would you?

one of the amps i narrowly missed about 20 years ago was an alamo with twin 10's. it was a severely excellent harp amp and i just could not find the cash to grab it.

yours sound to be another great alamo amp and maybe a killer for harp.

@MJ - Yep, mine is SS rectified as well. Found the diodes last night when I opened her up.

I cleaned her out and fired her up last night at Hipbone's place. Found out a few things in the process.

First, she has a matching set of Sylvania tubes. Green stamps, so I doubt they're the original tubes, but they're in great shape.

She has not one, but two output trannies. I dunno if this was common to find in old tube driven bass amps or not, but it kinda blew me away.

The speaker appears to be the original CTS alnico. Although, I don't recall ever seeing a CTS with a silver dustcap before. Odd. It still had it's insulating fiberglass wrapping around the back of it too.

Once I got her blasted out and the pots, sockets, and jacks cleaned, we fired her up and started experimenting with her. She has delicious tone, and muscular output. Found out the RMS rating actually ranges between 25 to 30 watts, so for appearance's sake, I guess I'll say she's a 30-watter if asked. ;-)

For only being a single speaker unit, she's a HEAVY sumbitch. I think partially because her construct appears to be actual wood instead of particle board or plywood. The speaker's an alnico as I said, so the weight can't be entirely attributed to the 15.

She still needs a little work. The wood strip that the chassis back cover screws to is split, so I need to glue that up. And I need to try and get a bead on some spare power tubes....preferably ones that aren't EH. But the 7868 is getting rarer every day. Funny how I always seem to go for the amps with the oddball, out of production tubes.

Hawkeye, It is likely that one of the 2 transformers you are seeing is a choke. post a pic.

I'll get one up in a couple hours.

EDIT: Sidenote....is it just me, or did Alamo seem to have a tendency to name their amps with monikers of cars or monikers that sounded like cars?

Fury, Jet, Dart, Capri, Challenger, Titan, Futura, Embassy, Electra, Fiesta, Montclair, Galaxie, Paragon...nine of those jump out at me right off the bat as models of autos from yesterday and today.

Here she is....

And here's the shot of the underchassis with the two trannies visible behind the power tubes.

Bumping this...

Ever since securing the amp, I've searched off and on for some online resource about Alamo amps. No dice thus far outside of the usual harmonycentral reviews. And no turnouts on finding the schematic yet either. Anyone know of a good place to dig up info on these babies?
