Poor guys. If they could see our current society, they would turn round in their graves. Sorry to be bitter, but in the afternoon, a fanfare came along my street, playing kind of military march. They were four musicians and very few people with them, but still, a police car before and behind them, running their blue lights...yeah, that was not a dangerous mission.

I served from 1966-1968. I have always liked this poem on Armistice Day. "Does It Matter?"
Does it matter?--losing your leg, For people will always be kind. And you need not show that you mind When the others come in after hunting To gobble their muffins and egg.
Does it matter?--losing your sight. There's such splendid work for the blind-- And people will always be kind. As you sit on the terrace, remembering, And turning your face to the light.
Does it matter?--those dreams from the pit. You can drink and forget and be glad. And people won't think that you're mad, For they'll know that you fought for your country, And no one will worry a bit.~ Siegfried Sassoon
Sassoon was an officer in the English army.
