Hi Robert! I notice that you play Lee Oskars. Did you retune them yourself, or is it possible to buy stock circular(spiral) tuned Lee Oskars these days? My (admittedly quick) google search has turned up only the Seydel Session as a harp that can be bought tuned circular OTB (and not too expensive at only $40 from Rockin Rons!). I've been thinking about spiral/cicular tunings for some time now, and I think I'll take the plunge soon. Personally, I'm not a fan of Lee Oskars (though I do have a couple), so I'll probably go the Seydel route (I have some and do like them), but I was curious about all the options out there... By the way, it's too bad you didn't post this a few months back! I just moved out of the Phoenix area (I used to live in Tempe), and I'd have loved to have the chance to have met up with you to chat about alternate tunings (I, too, play several different tunings)...
Oh, and I was wondering if you've also tried the "Jim's true chromatic" (tuned in fifths) or the "Kniri 221" (tuned in fourths) variants of spiral tuning? ----------
Hello, Isaac, Yes I retune LO's for my spirals. Lee does not offer a Spiral, and probably won't because the spiral embraces the Melody Maker and Natural Minor VERY well. Lee's value is helping 2nd position players try those two as a step from Standard diatonic. That's exactly what I did over the years and I am grateful Lee has them! ---------- Robert Hale Spiral Advocate Learn Harmonica by Webcam Low Rates, High Success http://www.youtube.com/DUKEofWAIL https://www.facebook.com/DUKEofWAIL http://www.dukeofwail.com
Thanks Robert, that's what I thought. Yes, Lee's value is definitely in providing an "easy" first step into alternate tunings. In fact, my first step into alternate tunings was with the purchase of Lee Oskar Natural Minor and Harmonic Minor harmonicas a few years back. It was a great way to get into different tunings, and I'm glad it existed, as I'm not sure I would have "taken the plunge" if such good, low-cost options hadn't existed!
