Hi Guys, My lovely daughter is going to do volunteer work in Ghana this time next year and me and the wife were at a presentation for Madventures who are running the trip.During the evening it became apparent that the kids out there have very little in the way of down time and it occured to me that a harmonica is something that they could get a lot of fun from in the moments they have to themselves.
I had a look around the house and found 4 C harps that i bought but no longer use as i now have 2 custom Marine Bands, but these harps are fine and play OK so I am going to strip and clean them and give them to Madventures for the kids.
So could you guys have a look and dig out any old C harps you have that work OK but that you no longer use and send them to me and I will clean them up and stock pile them for next year(if you feel inclined to clean them up yourselves that would be even better!)
It would be great if we could get 30 or more harps for those kids, they don't have a lot and I know they would love them.
You can send them to me at

cant you buy some inexpensive harps. they would be ideal for your use. and you could set up a paypal account for donations.
it would be easier to get money than harps sent to you.

Following eharp's suggestion, here's one possibility, although it's in the States: http://www.harpdepot.com/index1.html?c314.html&1

Maybe there's something similar in the UK.

Mr. Payne,
You should start a kickstarter campaign for this. This is perfect Kickstarter stuff.
It would be nice if they had some newer stuff. I don't know of any harp techs in Africa.

Here comes the next Andy Mackie.

Absolutely brilliant mate! I'll have a dig around, but I'm thinking about doing the same thing in Palestine.

WOW Stevelegh, that made me cry man. What an amazing guy, the only thing I have in common with him is a Knackered heart, I'm on my third Pacemaker!,I'm gonna check out the suggestions made and see what I can sort out but in the meantime I'm still up for recieving any unused C harps to send out and if I can raise funds to buy some new ones as well then all the better
Cheers Geordiebluesman.

Mate, don't worry about the condition of the old ticker, your heart is completely in the right place.

Let's tap up Hohner, Seydel and Suzuki for some harps for you.

Stay tuned....

I think Stevelegh has the right idea. I know Hohner has some discount harp programs for stuff like this. It might be easier on the logistics side too. I'm always short on cash, but I could probably scrounge up a few bucks for the cause. (I'm not sure I have any C harps that I could part with aside from some badly modified Blues Bands I used to practice tinkering on.)

Hi jodanchudan, I just noticed your offer to post this thread on Bluesharmonica.com, that would be great if you would do that.
Thanks for the support.

I hope it's OK with you Steve, but I put a couple of emails over to Suzuki and Sutherland, who handle Hohner in the UK if they're willing to offer discount or support. It might be an option to raise some cash from folks who live across the pond which may be cheaper than spending the money on postage.

As I say, I hope that's OK with you. I'll let you know as soon as I hear.

Matthew Smart says he has about new 10 Pocket Pals he can send. I'll see what I can come up with.

Got replies.

First from Suzuki:

'Hi Steve,

Interesting!

Yes, it's worth looking at and I would be happy to sell at low cost, as long as we have enough time to get a particular quantity in a particular model available from Japan. I do keep more than adequate stocks here in Milton Keynes, but it may be you would need more than I have.

You are right of course - it's the shipping that's the problem.

Let me have more details and we'll see where to go from there.

Best Regards,'

An email arrived from Hohner's UK distributor this morning.

'Hello Steve

Unfortunately we do no keep used or seconds or returns in harmonicas, thus am unable to help.

As a charity and with proof of the charity I am prepared to offer a better price for some harmonicas for this cause.

When you are ready please contact me.'

Down to you Steve. I don't know if you can do anything to tie in with the charity or you'd rather look at Suzuki's offer. If you can give me an email address, I'll forward the original emails over to you which has the contact names and numbers.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks for that matey, you're most kind.
My email is
stevepayne2@blueyonder.co.uk
I have been in touch with Madventures to sound them out with regard to the idea in general and they said they will get back to me, they may say that any money raised could be better spent which was why I asked for unwanted C harps rather than new ones which will have to be bought.
We are starting some fund raising next week because we have to raise £1,500.00 to qualify to join the project, anything raised above and beyond that amount will be a bonus but obviously I will have to take Madventures advice on the best use of funds.
Anyway let me have the details of the contacts and I will start negotiations and see what transpires.
Cheers Geordie.

What about a C chromatic? I believe I could donate a Seydel Chromatic DeLuxe to the cause.
