I've got a $100 Visa gift card, and want to buy some harps. I'm thinking of a 5 key set of a Suzuki Bluesmaster or Seydel Blues Session standard for my car, or should I get a Firebreath and just one or two of the Bluesmasters or Blues Session? (I like the shape of the Suzuki Promaster a lot, and that's why I'm gravitating towards the Blues Session or Bluesmaster.)

If I were you, I'd go for Seydel.

Did I read well, "...Seydel Blues Session standard FOR MY CAR" ? Don't keep your harps in your car dude, too much heat will damage them.

I like the Bluesmaster a lot. It seems just like a Delta Frost, one vendor at a convention tells me they are the same reed plate, Bushman will tell you they aren't. They are quite responsive.

I keep harps in my car. Sometimes, I just have to play. Its a lot better than swearing at the other drivers.

I think it depends a lot on what you've already tried. My wish list includes a Suzuki Firebreath, a Seydel 1847 Silver+, and a Bushman. I wouldn't mind trying an Hohner XB-40 or a Suzuki Overdrive either, but I already have a cheap harp to cover each key (except B natural). Lots of people seem to like the Hohner Golden Melodies.

nacoran: forget the XB-40, its like having a house brick in your gob, and the tone sucks. This item was was a waste of hype by Hohner years ago. Mine is in the back of the cupboard.

My preference is Golden Melody (customised preferably)

For the people recommending Buddha, I don't care for wooden combs or the Marine Band cover shape, and Golden Melodies always snag my beard. I have a custom harp on the way, but its a Seydel. I also have Rupert Oysler's videos on order, so I will learn to fish instead of buying a fish. Plus, I already have a teacher (whom I found through this forum: Thanks eharp!)

I drive 1,000 miles a week, and the car is where I do most of my playing. I'd like to keep a full set in my car at all times.

The Session would be a good one for the car. It would have to get above whatever the melting point of the plastic is to do any damage to it.

I carry a Seydel Silver Plus as my carry, it and the Session have the same basic construction. They both tend to improve response after you've played for a while, like a Spec. 20 or Lee Oskar would.

Yes... sometimes Dave Payne plays plastic. Not too often, but sometimes.

Question for the guys who like the Suzuki Firebreath. It mentions on some of the other models phospher bronze reeds. But I haven't seen anything yet on what the Firebreaths reeds are. Seydels stainless steel reeds are ok but seem muted to me, nice harps, I like the blues Favorites, needed gapped out of the box, I think they all do. With a newer harp like the Firebreath if it has the Bronze reeds I wonder what that does to staying in tune and lasting

Well, if I had found money, I would go for a custom like a Buddah. He does Special 20's. I dislike Marine Bands. Have too many non Golden melody sized harps to want a golden, althugh I feel they are very well built. If you want off the shelf, I have a whole set of Delta Frosts I like, but I recently got a Seydel Blues Soloist Pro From Elk River and, let me tell you, it is the best out of box harp I ever got - has it all over the Blues Session, Suzuki Bluesmaster or promaster. Did not buy it for the wood comb as I feel that argument is overdone, but teh comb on it is magnificent maple. I happen not to like the 2 suzukis I have, but I am a hack anyway.

Have fun with the bucks.

Just got a Seydel 1847 Silver in G today. Pretty damn nice harp. The chords are as sexy as hell.

Still, why not do the Buddha thing.

Choices, choices...

Have fun spending the dough.

BTW- I am a seydel dealer, I build any model harp, I cut combs from anything and I'm building harps for Rupert.

Hey Dave, what's the difference between a Silver and Silver +? And how is the Marine Band in G restoration doing?

As for driving and playing, yes I do, and its generated some bad habits. I don't do head shakes well, but can do hand shakes pretty well. I also tend not to cup very well, since I play one handed. These are things I used to do, but the skills kind of fell by the wayside from years of playing in the car. My teacher is curing me of the bad habits, though.
