Hey guys my name is Paul Hefner. I have a recording project that I need a harmonica part (30 sec solo) laid down on. I'm looking for a neil young type sound (howling/lonely/melodic). will get credit on the album and will pay $15 for a 30 sec solo if usuable. if interested please email me at paul.hefner@hotmail.com. Thanks!
just to do the math for you guys- that's $30 a minute. $1,800 an hour. i dont think even howard makes that. and for YOUR playing?
but let's say it takes you 5 minutes. $3 a minute.
you guys noodle around in your cars for free! you guys dont get paid a cent to throw us a thread with you playing to a bt! you guys have spent way more time than that in inane arguments on this forum!
but you dont help someone out that asks...... NO! .....that offers to PAY for some help. NIIIIICE!
#phefner84 Why don't you give more detail on your requirement, eg. key, format required etc. then those of us interested could post them on here and you can take your pick? I,m not worried about the money but a credit on an album would be great.
@eharp - Sort of the same thought I had. Here is a guy making a respectful offer, and yeah, perhaps it was a little low. Maybe he lacked a bit of experience or wasn't aware what the going rate is or maybe that's all he had. I've done sessions for a lot of singer-songwriters and independent projects. Not unusual. In any event, I didn't think he deserved a bunch of smart ass replies. It's not like he was some bar owner wanting someone to play for "exposure".
So guess what? I didn't wait around expecting him to lay out the details on some forum he probably has no interest in. I contacted the guy. Found out what he wanted and what was involved. One little clip done acoustic. I explained what my going rate was, I charge per song, but since I had nothing better to do that day and it would be quick and easy, I'd do it for half price. He asked me a couple of questions to find out if I knew what I was doing, figured I did, and we had a deal.
He sent me an mp3 of the backing track and a general idea of what he wanted. I imported that into my software, did three takes to give him something to choose from and sent him my track as a .wav file through DropBox.com. Including setting up my home studio, it took me maybe an hour and I never left the house.
He liked the first one well enough that he immediately booked a 2nd song, full length, and at my full rate. I didn't even have to ask. He paid for both sessions in front via PayPal. Again easy to do, didn't take too much time, and I never even had to get out of my sweats. He also told me he has some future projects he might need me on and will pass my name to some friends as well. He was respectful and enjoyable to deal with. The music was well outside the box of straight blues or country and was interesting to work on.
In fairness, y'all wrote some pretty funny stuff. I was kind of chuckling as I put the money into my bank. ---------- LSC

damn you, lsc! i was the first one that contacted him. he sent me a couple of versions of the song. told him i needed a couple of days to have the time to do it. then i get this in an email: "hey man I got another guy to do it that is a former professional recorder." damn you!!
Thank you for the kind words. I didn't expect that. Especially meaningful to me coming from fellow players. ---------- LSC
