Does anyone here have this case and if so, how do you like it?

I got one and I like it. It paid for itself a few weeks ago when I dropped it down a flight of stairs. Well built, and protected everything inside. When I got it, I threw out the trays that it came with, and the leather Hohner case fits perfectly in place of the trays.
My case holds two guitar pedals, two mics and cables, at least 14 harps, and few other items.

Hohner sold a lot of those Mississippi toolboxes. I had one, didn't like having my harps bang into each other, so I sold it. I picked up a few of those inexpensive accordian fold vinyl 7 harp cases they now sell for about 25.00 each. There is a pocket for each harp, easy to keep organized. Also lightweight and easy to slip into a briefcase or backpack. For a complete set of harps, the Seydel 20 harp case is a clear winner. Individual pockets for 7,6 and 7 harps in a cordura hardcase with a little room for accesories. PT turned me on to these several years back. I have 2 of these too, holds nearly everything, but be sure and buy the model with a shoulder strap.

I've wrestled this for years with lots of designs. My favorite was a tackle box that was just the right size. It survived for a long time but it eventually had to be replaced. I went with one of the Hohner cases and, like rbeetsme, didn't like them banging around and getting mixed up. I modified it a few times but still had trouble because the harps always needed something on top to fill the space so they wouldn't get out of order. Never worked. Then I did this and it's perfect. Find an old cosmetic travel case. Most are tolex like heavy vinyl, Bonedog has one in his sig. A tweed one won't be easy to find. Harbor freight has an anvil copy for about $10.

I fitted out my own briefcase, quite similiar to Hohner's offering. I have no problems. I keep 13 harps in the top tray. The tray, harps and lid fit together just right so the harps are secure. They don't rattle around or anything. And I have room for 13 more if I want, but I keep chromatic, earplugs, iPod, patch leads, adapters, batteries etc in the compartment under the tray. And I have room for 2 pedals, power supplies, 2 mics and 2 leads. Standard issue office briefcase. Took a couple of sessions to make, a little planning and maybe $20. But I haven't used the hohner case. ----------

I have one of the hardshell Hohner C12 cases. I don't use it anymore except for storing blown harps. I used a couple of Piedmont cases for a long time, but now I use those mainly for storing spare tubes (great application BTW). Now I use a musiciansgear case. Sounds like it's of the same ilk of what you guys are describing here. I'd love a Fender case. They look fantastic. But honestly, I think the one I have now actually has a lot more storage capacity in it aside from the two trays. ----------

Never liked the look of the Hohner case, besides which I play Seydel exclusively.
I use a regular briefcase. I say regular though mine is covered in real snakeskin with leather trim and lined with suede pigskin. It also has combination locks on both latches. After 20 years it has its own "patina". The snakeskin near the handle got a bit worn and started to separate and beer spill didn't do it much good either. I've "repaired" some spots with transparent tape. Inside it holds a Seydel 14 harp case, bullet mic, cable for the mic, a couple of short connecting cables, two pedals, maglight, screwdriver, ballpoint pen and a Sharpie. In the lid pockets it also holds set lists, one sheets, and business cards.
I've thought about getting something else but I haven't found anything that can hold all those bits and pieces and is still lightweight. It's also so beat up I think it would put off a thief, though it rarely leaves my sight, especially after I figured out there's over two grands worth of stuff in there. ---------- LSC

isnt the hohner case the one with slots in the foams so harps dont rattle. i think it is the fender case that has the trays. if so.... the hohner case, imo, doesnt have enough slots to hold all the harps i carry. but i did see on some site (maybe hal irwin's old site) that you could buy replacement foam with the cut outs for close to twice what the original holds.

@ eharp
The current Hohner case, the C12 which I have, does indeed have a large piece of foam with cutouts for harps. Problem with mine at least is that there's no foam floor piece for the harps to rest on, so they still rattle up against the hardshell plastic of the case. I was pretty disappointed with it to be honest. ----------

The case I'm asking about is the one with the removable trays.

The trays don't work to hold the harps. I already had the Hohner leather case, and it works well in the box. Plus, I store some harps under the leather case:

Harbour freight tools case with foam padding $14 bucks. You could run over it with a truck and it will dent the tire. Holds all sorts of stuff. Don't pay top dollar for hohner case IMO.

@Duke
Now I'm pretty positive the one I have from musiciansgear is the same general design as the old Hohner case. I've found that the trays only work properly if the top tray is completely full from end to end with the holes facing up. If one harp is missing, then the harps fall out and scatter all over the inside of the case. Only differences I see are the latches and the storage pocket inside the lid. I think I may add one myself! ----------

Yeah, the trays were useless. One thing about the latches - they have a lock, like a piece of luggage, so you can do an Elwood Blues routine with the key if you want!

Yeah, mine has brass hardware and a single lockable catch latch. Problem is that I can't seem to get the lock to work, so I just leave it unlocked in case it locks and I can't get it open again. LOL

Yeah of course you have to follow general principles of packing. Case aint no miracle worker, but a lot better than the flour sack I used to use. That was a "Laucke Crusty White 10kg". Natural calico. Held quite a bit of gear but required lots of rummaging..wisht I could post photos from this phone 8') ----------
