Couldn't help it, I had to put some lyrics to this fine track....
This is not for the competition, just for fun...

Here are the lyrics:

I was sitting in the corner
bottle of whiskey in my hand
my harp sticking out of my pocket
and in my wallet.... not a dime to spend

the band was playing a slow song
but they were way off key
but off course it could have been the alcohol
it also could have been me

I was feeling very down and
I was feeling really low
I 'd brought along my harmonica
but there was no place to blow

but then the singer, she looked at me
and she said, with a smile
" c'mon boy, bring your harmonica here
and play with us for a while"

so I jumped on the band stand
and I ripped my harmonica out
and when I started playing
wow, you should have seen the crowd

I was hitting every note
and I was wailing like a pro
nobody can stop me now
I was really letting it go

- harmonica-

I felt like I was Sonny Boy
and then the singer, she looked at me
she said "Man, you can play"
"You are the King Bee"

"I can listen to you all day"
"I don't wanna have your money"
"If you can play your harp for me"
"I'll give you all my honey"

- harmonica-

and then I woke up
an empty bottle in my hand
my harmonica sticking out of my pocket
and there... there was no band....

I listened to it again--then played it for my wife--she loved it and said that is "a really well thought out song." That's pretty cool--she usually doesn't even care much for blues--but she's right--you make the whole thing work--the ending is great the way the words end off with the guitar. Great Job!

You're too kind Wailer.... Frankly it would be much better if YOU did this version. I'm not much of a singer (that's why I talked myself through this one) plus I have a nasty Dutch accent..... now YOU, you've got a good voice and a real "native" accent... waddaya say Wailer..... can we see you do this one....? I, for one, would really love to hear you do it.... (and perhaps your wife too..)

Well, thanks, Dutch--but I like the talking version--I might give it a run or two and see what happens--but I really don't think I'll make it all that much better--just different.

I'll post something if it comes together--it might be a while though--I'm busy these days with building myself a new woodshed/shop. . .

NEW WORD ALERT >> "intercontectedness". Must be an advanced archealogical term?

OK, Dutch--you did ask for it a while back. Here is my version of your song. I don't think I made it any better, just different--sped it up a bit and a different groove--a little re-writing and a chorus added. Somewhere there is a tempo change--I guess I get a little too carried away sometimes.

I hope you like it. . .

Great, both of you ! DutchBones, I really like your speech-vocal, great voice tone and perfectly on time. Fine lyrics too. Oldwailer, I like a lot the bottleneck and your singing.

Oldwailer, I've often followed your contributions on this forum and have always been impressed by your evenhandedness and good-naturedness, but now there's something else to be impressed about: I really like the way you sang this. I await Dutchbones' response...

Wailer, you have NOOO idea how happy this makes me , seeing you wailing like a "King Bee" using my lyrics. I love the chorus you added and the new groove is groovy. And not to mention the guitar, your guitar playing is outstanding too Can't wait to add some harp to it (although it doesn't really need any) Wailer YOU'RE the King Bee!! GREAT!!

Of course, if anybody else wants to take a crack at it, I would say "go for it".

Well, of course it needs harp, Dutch--that's why I kept saying "Take it, Dutch." I wouldn't have left that much space with just rhythm thumpings it I didn't think it would get a harp fill in. . .

I'm glad you liked it--come on back with the harp part! (or anybody else who wants to).

I just heard the "Take it, Dutch" bit (was listening early this morning, with the sound turned down very low as not to wake up the Mrs) but I figured that you didn't leave all that space in between just for the heck of it.
However, at the moment I'm still working on the rest of the minor blues I posted elsewhere on the forum, but I will be listening "King Bee" as much as possible,as to absorb it and to get some ideas for the harp part.
Frankly, it will be interesting to try something "up beat" since I usually play slow stuff....

"I'll Be Back!"
