Howzit everybody,

just received some gorgeous harp combs from Hetrick
Harmonicas. Sorry no pics.

Brown Bamboo:
actually it's not really brown but sorta tan. the bamboo
acquires this color do to a heat treatment to stabilize
the wood during the CNC cutting process. being born and raised in Hawaii i'm very framiliar with bamboo- musical instruments, Thai pipes, etc. and there are several ways
to keep it from cracking and warping.

these combs are identical to the lighter tint bamboo
in all but color. they are hand lacquered by Scott Hetricks Mum at her kitchen table. she is an artist;like a real artist, i'm not just complimenting her- and
the combs have a dense, shiny, high gloss finish.

Ebony:
man! i got one for a GM. it looks like one of the black
keys on a piano. Ebony is any one of several dark hard woods of the persimmon tree variety native to tropical Africa and tropical Asia. i pulled out my Webster for this last bit of info.

the red GM stock combs tend to crumble.

the SP/20 stock combs look like kiddy toys.

now, i think both stock designs on the GM and SP/20 are very good designs, but- and this is a big BUT, an after market comb w/ a flat sanded bottom reed plate will give you air tightness, durability, and look cool as hell.

now, first and foremost, i'm a player. and when a harp looks sharp, i want to play it, and when i want to play , i play better.

cheers, mark

I have a blond BR bamboo comb from Hetrick. It's very nice. Almost perfect but the cover plate holes don't quite line up with the reed plates. Thus requiring the collar bolts to sit a bit funky.

I have brown bamboo Hetrick combs on a couple of my Seydel 1847 customs. I love them (and I also love their mahogany comb).

A picture is worth a thousand posts. Several pictures are just what the Dr. ordered. And if you're a customizer, shame on ye if you offer these comb options without pictures!!!!
