Hi, I've read with interest the threads on various tool kits but nowhere can I see a definitive answer to the following question: Is the de-riveting tool from the Seydel Basic Tool kit suitable for use on Hohner Crossovers and Marine Bands? Hohner don't appear to sell their de-riveting tool separately and I really don't want to buy an entire £229 tool kit just for one tool! Can anyone of you customisers and tweakers out there provide an answer? Many thanks in advance!

I have used the Seydel tool, which looks like a modified set of duk billed pliers, on Honher Harmonicas without in trouble in rivet removal. I have only done a few so I can't say for sure there are no long term problems, but he tool doies get the rivet out of a Pro-Harp, Golden Melody and Special 20.

Works for everything but the MS models. The MS rivet heads are too big. I have filed the heads smaller and used the tool on them, but as is they won't work.

Many thanks guys. I shall order with confidence1 Incidentally, I had reply from my email to Hohner asking for availablity of their de-reviter as a single item. It came out at 119 Euros before shipping! That's exactly the price of the entire Seydel Basic Tool Kit!

I bought a strip of steel and a woodworking punch for about $15. Drilled three 3/32 inch holes and one 1/16 to fit the distance between the rivet heads so the reedplate sits in there properly and that's my de-rivet/riveting tool.

I got a 2 oz jeweler's hammer on Ebay and a few rivet sticks. After a few hours of practice on some scrap reedplates, I'm feeling pretty competent.

Hi there! I made my own de0riveting pliers from a cheap "grommet setter" I got from Harbor Rieght for $5. Actually, I've assembled a serviceable reed replacement and tuning tool kit from stuff I acquired form Harbor Frieght for very little money. I'll start a new thread about it though so as not to Hijack this one...
