Well I just got back from the studio,With the band (Rainwater) doing the Rainwater project,It was a interesting night,It took 5 hours it was done mostly on improv,Ricky Rainwater had a rufff idea of what he wanted and along with The producer Hank Charles of Valcour Sound, and Craig Moon on drums, and Chris Marten lead guitar,And Myself David (Hobostubs) Ashlock on harp,!st off i must say Im the weak link in this band,And I know its not blues,But me and Ricky have jammed for years off and on and here latley me and Ricky and the drummer been doing some gigs,But then we met Chris he's only 21 but man can he jam,the rest of the band is about my age (43) give or take,We was running out of time as a matter of fact the Producer cut us a extra hour, but we had to do the harp and guitar both at the same time,So it was hear it once and go,They thought the harp sounded good, and didnt spend much time redoing it,They did spend awhile on the solos getting them tight,But then again the lead guitar player was the spotlight instrument .I was just doing some extra flavor,Which i dont mind doing,I would have liked doing a retake because well Im not to happy with it,But they liked it so whom am I to say,It gives me a great opurtunity to learn on the fly.with these guys,#5 song,I did like,Ricky was like I dont think we need harp on this one,but I had my rp155 with the Hunter harp patches and I felt like i could add a cool vibe to it,He said if you feel it go for it,They hadnt heard all the effects on my pedal yet,And about halfway in the song its changes allmost to another song, and thats when I did the organ like sounds for about 40 seconds im guessing.I hit the last notes just a hair with it and I liked how i did on that song the rest ,I wish i had more time,The rest of the guys rock,Im glad they like a little harp now and then, when we do live gigs we play more cover tunes(country ,classic rock) and there alot more harp type stuff, but the challenge is fun.;-)I put some harp on songs 1,3,5

thanks tookatooka,I dont know about greats, but i was surprised they let a bum like me in the band;-)Ive known Rick rainwater for awhile And he enjoys making music with close friends ,theres a few that sit in now and then its kind of a cool situation ,He's like I just wanted to make a cd with some friends ,Do what you want on promoting Dave he said,I was like sure no problem,The kid on lead guitar i jammed acoustics with him at another friends house one open mic night,But i hadnt had a chance to hear him on eletric, hes good, exspecially for only being 21.we are doing a Biker fund raiser with a bunch of other bands, there having music and a poker run,we got booked at noon Sat,but what the heck, most the bikers still be on the run,but its for autism and Im looking forward to it

Hey Dave, I listened to that from beginning to end and I didn't hear any weak link. A job well done.

thanks Sagre, yea the one I have showing was the last song #5 they had me and the lead player pluged in at the same time trying to get it finished,we would play, then stop, back up play it was kind of neat,I like this song best,And it wasnt meant to have harp but he said go for it then after the 1st pause,he said hey i like that weird sound do it,the others i felt like were the same licks I allways do on my limited bag of licks,I just tried to keep it simple, but I feel like it could of been better, but it was fun amd a learning exsperience,I kind of like being in the background adding moody sounds to songs,Its why I started trying to learn a harp, and lets face it There no way I can stand toe to toe with the kid,Again thanks Sarge

you did good hobo! i relate to not being happy with what i did in studio, but the one way to go is usually forward. i try always to learn from experiences like that even if i can't redo anything on that one song or part that time. next time out i bring the new improved version.
my favorite way to record is set up and go. mic off and isolate if it's needed, but i like the live flavor.
that's where the real deal is, out live.

Thanks jbone,

It was interesting I set around the studio for 1st few hours while the main parts were done,I had a ice chest full of beer avaible to me and was trying not to have to many,Not so much for the playing,I play while having a few most times, but was worried about the 40 mile drive home, and I like my beer So I had to keep that kind of leveled,Then we was about to run out of time so they hooked me and the lead guitar up at the same time, and they would play the song for about a min ,we would get a feel for it ,then lay it down,I enjoyed it,It was interesting and learned alot,
