"yes miles im aware that adam is a teacher. and there is no need to tell the teacher on me "snitchy""

I am not sure how to reply to that. I didn't realize that I had talked to Adam about this situation. Do you know something I don't?

"because adam also beleives in freedom of speech and my right to dream that one day teachers will be breaking their backs building roads doinf REAL work instead of yelling at kids for drawing pictures and paying no mind to their boring lessons."

I doubt that Adam shares this view. I am pretty certain that Adam considers the the work he does (the work that puts food in his children's mouths) to be "REAL work." The last portion of that quote tells me that you might not understand what professors like Adam Actually do.

Despite what many may claim, Humans are Not brutes. We did not survive for this long by solely relying on our strength. We now enjoy many technologies, some of the longest and healthiest lives, and even varied art forms because of our abilities to harness man's True power: The Brain. Despite what some testosterone-driven modern-brutes claim, being a man, or having a "REAL" career does NOT mean doing hard labor.

I don't even know what else to say. You are sitting here having an argument on a Computer, About Computers, and you are telling me that Professors, research scientists, etc., are not "REAL" jobs.

MP ... Thanks for sharing your experience. But I bet you did more than "the money scale" in a six hour gig. Would you care to quess what percentage was blues scale and minor??

Michael .. I agree with you when you say different different are different. I'm for what ever works for those different people.

I also have witnessed very talented players that only played one style, or try to make one style fit everything.

Gnarly ... You have mentioned major pentatonic and minor pentatonic. I personally have lumped all minor scales into one bag, even though I know there is a difference. At this stage of my playing, I hold onto the 3 types of scales , "money", Blues, and minor. And if you pin me down, I would say there is fourth, regular major scale for those common melodies.

Let me add, I have found the "money" scale would let me take a simple yet effective solo on many tunes, easier than trying all the notes of the major scale. But I have NOT found the minor pentatonic to work better than a regular minor scale. (for what it's worth)

I'm at a loss to know what people are getting worked up about. It's just music, folks. I'm just talking music, as musicians do. I didn't say educated musicians, because I don't want anybody here--billy shines--trying to cut me a new one. I said musicians.

Billy, the way I'm talking about music is entirely unexceptional. I'm not a music school guy. I don't read music. I use my wits. If you'd stop fighting with yourself, and with me, and with half the people in this thread, you'd realize that I'm just a guy talking music.

I'm not showering with ten year old boys and lying about it. Some famous people do that. It's not my thing.

I'm not mowing people down in Tahrir Square.

I'm not calling anybody names.

I'm just talking music. That's what musicians do. You seem to be shocked, Billy, by the way that some people talk music. That amazes me. Worldly guys like you, guys who've been around, grizzled veterans sitting at the bar, usually have a wider latitude for human diversity. They've seen everything and don't get worked up by....the way people talk about music!

I'm not the slightest bit shocked by the way YOU talk music. I've met a fair number of guys like you. I like guys like you. So what's your problem here? I don't get it. You seem threatened by the way I and several others are talking. But we're saying nothing that should threaten or upset you.

If I said I wanted to shower with young boys and soap 'em up, that would be shocking, and I wouldn't blame you for getting upset. I'm not blaming you for getting upset now. I just don't get it.

Thank you, timeistight. Good call.

Thanks, Michael Rubin. Thanks, Jim, for starting this thread. Free and open discussion is what this forum is about. I have no enemies. I just talk about music the way I play music, in a way that feels right.

I realize that I'm talking in fairly simplistic terms compared with real musical intellectuals. I do the best I can. Peace to all who just don't get it, or who have a problem with it.

Has anybody here ever seen cats fighting in a paper bag? Amazing sight. Sad. Funny. At this point, age 54, I'm incapable of being one. Hit it, boys!

"The Complete Alphabet Scale" is the one most used for sexual manifestations.

According to the Polls...

70% use A through Z

20% A - K

10% use "A" only, they have no partner.

@billy: I really like my professor's job. I like playing harmonica, too, and I like the occasional tour of 3-7 days, but I'd hate having to travel most of the time. I'm a homebody. I like the daily cycle of weather, rise & shine, say Hi to wife and kid, etc. I knew a long time ago that the ideal life for me would involve a fair bit of staying put--and the sort of challenges (teaching, writing, thinking) that my job happens to offer. I have no complaints.

Many years ago I took note of a t-shirt that read: "No computer will replace me until it learns to drink."

"No computer will replace me until it learns to drink."

I predict that the human race will be begin to mutate due to alcoholism by the year 3012 and will resemble something like this.

And the money scale due to inflation will be worth approximately 1/4 of a billion dollars.

Every billy's post is dynamite.
He just didn't delete them, they blew up!

Now before Billy's intervention, I asked a question but it seems that I won't get a reply?

"MP ... Thanks for sharing your experience. But I bet you did more than "the money scale" in a six hour gig. Would you care to quess what percentage was blues scale and minor??"

well, it's been a long time. now in that genre i'd guess at least 70 percent was Money Scale(i've gotten fond of that term and am going to use it if i have your permission). songs like Orange Blossom Special and Cotton Eye Joe fit the term. now some Waylon Jennings tunes and Willy Nelsons night life are bluesy but in a myxolidian way which is money scale to me if you want to split hairs because these tunes have bridges in them - so maybe 10%? i'll say 20% minor but not a bluesy chicago style minor since they could be played in second position. but, it's been a long time and we knew so many tunes i can't possibly remember them all.

from reading your original post i see we have enjoyed similar musical circumstances.

have a good day, mark

kudzurunner: "It's really just a question of when it's appropriate to use the flat seventh, flat fifth, and flattish third (all varieties) vs. when it's appropriate to use the major third and major sixth"

laurent2015: "Just to be sure: it means we have to feel the best between using the blues scale or the Penta M, or am I lost?"

Yeah, you have to feel it. There are guidelines, but there aren't any rules.
