Yeah - I shot that video with my trusty iphone - Went last week for the first time and had a blast playing. Got there too late to sign up last night but with Greg and Mark H. I can't say they needed or missed me.
I just listened, grooved and took notes.

Thanks, Guys

The Kalamazoo can't be heard at that jam. I use my Sonny Jr Avenger. It is not cranked as loud as it will go but it is nice to have enough stage volume without monitors! It is lined-out into the house system.

I dig that Avenger. I hate following Greg! He's rock solid.

One time, I invited Greg to play harp with me at that jam. I got schooled. Again.

Joe is full of shit. The guy plays great old school blues, has killer tone, and knows more about the blues and blues artists than just about anyone else I know. Bonedog ain't too bad himself. We have a lot of very good harp players in the area!

I am one of two harp players in my one crocodile town
the other one plays mostly chromatic

@didj: You know, I can see why you might think that. But it isn't tough. Most of us know one another and are friends. I am inspired when ANY of them play because everyone is different and has something to bring to the table. I learn from them. Maybe they learn from me too. It is a good thing.

If it wasn't for some of the players in the area, I probably would never have gotten back into playing. I'm a fan of blues first and player second. I had pretty much quit playing after moving to the west coast. RJ Mischo and a couple of others coaxed me into playing again after a long hiatus.

I learn things from other harp players and non-harp players in the area all the time. I have met a lot of very interesting people along the way. The funny thing is that now, I learn more from non-harp players, than harp players.

Non-harp players who have an appreciation for or have worked extensively with harp players have some very interesting insights. I learn a lot from them.

What always impresses me about Gregs singing and playing is that they are not only relaxed and idiomatically correct; i mean great, sure, a lot of folks understand the idiom- but Greg understands FEEL and GROOVE. he moves effortlessly and confidently with an authority that is enviable.

thumbs up! Mark

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone. I love slow blues. Sometimes it is frowned upon at a jam because it can kill the dance mood. But my experience is that the opposite is true when it is well played. This came off in large part because the guys behind me did such a GREAT job. Great players at every position, nobody over-played, solid-as-a-rock beat - makes my job easy and always brings out the best.

Cheers

I totally agree Greg!
You can't play slow Blues to many songs a night, but it is GREAT contrast when done like that!
The right way!
I only asked about the Kalamazoo because I traded for one about 6 months ago and I'm really liking it a lot! I know you have a great deal of experience with them and would really like to hear something you might have recorded with one. If it's not to much to ask!
If you have time thanks Greg!

@chromatic - I don't have any great recordings of me on the Kalamazoo - there are a few recordings of it on my web site on the Kalamazoo page http://www.blowsmeaway.com/kalamazoo.html

Also on our CD "Duracool" the tune Early in the Morning (another slow blues) was recorded with a Zoo and a Cruncher.
