I'm thinking about joining the affiliate program at Musician's Friend and putting a link on this website, so that players will be able to jump there from here, purchase good cheap harps via their mail order operation, and I'll get a 10% affiliate fee on each such transaction.
It seems kind of crazy, in fact, that I haven't done that sort of thing before. Y'all don't just play harps; you buy them. A lot of them, most of you. If I add incrementally to the convenience of mail-ordering your harps, AND if I'm sending you to a place that has a wide selection and great service, I'm helping you out.
But before I do this, I want to solicit feedback. Has anybody here ordered from Musician's Friend? They're a huge operation. They seem to have a good basic selection of harps. If you've ordered from them, were you satisfied with the transaction(s)? Please tell me now, before I take the leap.
One thing I can guarantee: I'm not going to plaster this entire website with ad-clutter. I just think a website called Modern Blues Harmonica might offer players a quick link to a place that can sell them good harps cheap, with quick deliver. Musician's Friend looks like that sort of place, but I'd rather hear from you, bad news or good, before I sign on with them.

I used to deal with them and I have had no problems. However, not long ago, I read that they changed management and have turned into crap as far as customer service and getting the stuff shipped in a timely manner, if at all. But Since I have no recent experience with them, I can't say first hand.
(Musician's Friend and Music 1 2 3 are the same people.)

I think that ones safest bet would be coast2coastmusic.com
They ship super quick.

Hi Adam, over here in the UK I use Thomann, a german company which offers great deals and very fast shipping. I would imagine the UK and European forum members would use a company closer to home than the US companies, although there are certain items that, even with the extra shipping, are cheaper in the states. I have no experience with Musicians' Friend though. I guess you're gonna have a lot of different opinions on this topic.

I used to deal quite a lot with MF--then I ordered a MB 364 and got this thing that was "solo tuned"--which meant that it wasn't a regular tuned harp at all.
I wrote several emails to them--some pretty pissy--but never got a single response. They've been on my sh*t list every since.
Too bad--they used to be fast to ship and prices very competitive.
I now shop Amazon first for harps--if they have what you want, it is usually the best price--and they ship so fast I can't believe it--I can actually have a new harp in my hands within three days with normal shipping charges. . .

Never tried them. I used to get a lot of harps from Harp Depot & unlike others I never experienced problems - fast delivery times to Australia 3 to 4 days and were very good prices. Sadly, for me, our dollar has gone way out of whack with the US$ and prices have gone skywards so I now shop local. Only problem is in Australia its difficult to get what I want so sometimes any brand has to do and sometimes I have to wait months especially for alternate tunings. The harp does not appear to be an instrument taken seriously by our music stores as often all they have in stock is bottom of the range cheaply made Chinese toys. I found Harp Depot very good and would have no hesitation in using them again when the current $ mess settles.

I haven't purchased anything from Musician's Friend, but the selection and prices are fair on the website. Short of discovering horrible customer service or slow shipping, I have no qualms about ordering through them for harps or accessories.
At the risk of offering an unsolicited alternate (if needed), I've bought harps through www.theinstrumentstore.com (via Amazon.com) and had excellent service.

I've just ordered two harps from Musician's Friend and will see how they do.
Excellent point about European distributors for my European visitors.
I use Amazon for a variety of things--I just purchased a particular kind of Solgar vitamins through them!--but I'm not sure about harps.
I looked at the smaller harp shop place that somebody referenced above--the husband and wife place. Good prices, certainly, but not as broad a selection as I'd like. Very poor selection of Seydels, for example.

I had nothing but good experiences with MF. With my 5,6 orders from them I only had to contact their customer service once, maybe that's why I didn't have the bad experience of some of the other posters. Most of the time, the items always arrived fast and in good condition.

Adam, for the European harp players please check out harponline (based in Germany):

Very professional, broad choice (incl. tools and parts), excellent service and correct pricing. Highly recommended.
