----If you guys want a dynamite harp mic contact Steve Warner at harpgrind@sbcglobal.net. All I can say is WOW! This guy made me a mic that is 10 times hotter and more responsive than what I am currently using. The mic is also a fine piece of craftsmanship. He is personable, honest and knows electronics inside and out. His prices are extremely fair. His website is www.thunderharpmics.com--- Dusty Wood--- Van Nuys,California

Ralph:

Please put this sort of stuff in the thread (IN BOLDFACE) dedicated specifically to mics and amps. Thanks.

this is why I suggested to "lock" those 3 subjects at the top (of the forum)
it is pretty standard for a bulletin board to have this capability....new people aren't going to check the previous posts to see if there is a "For Sale" topic.....

Need advise on a Mic decision.
My sister wants to give me an early Christmas present. She wants to buy my next microphone.

I think I'm down to one of two microphones and want to hear from all of you which one you would choose.

Choice A:
Harmonica Honker: Beltpack with monitor www.harmonicahonker.com
After reading Planet Harmonica's article on microphones, where the top Europe Harmonica players tested several microphones, the Harmonica Honker had very impressive results.
http://www.planetharmonica.com/ph2/VE/TMResultatsUK.htm
What intrigues me the most, is that you can get this with a built in in-ear monitor. http://www.harmonicahonker.com/monitor.htm

Choice B:
Audix Fireball V
http://www.audixusa.com/docs/products/FireBall_V.shtml
After reading some reviews on this microphone, I impressed with it's very low feedback issues and how many "Sound" guys prefer that harp players use this mic. Being a Sound person my self, I get what they are saying.

I know there are other wonderful choices out there. I've even made my own i-mic. But when my Sister offered, I thought this was an opportunity to try ones that are not so common.
So, if you don't mind, please only tell me what you think about one or both of these two mics.

Thank you very much.

The reason the Audix doesn't feedback much is that it is essentially a vocal mic - low impedance. If you want an overdriven sound, you'll probably need to use a low-high transformer on it and then you'll find you need to tame the feedback more - perhaps not as much as a bullet though.

ADAM - If you are unable to lock threads at the top of the list, as suggested, could you have links to those trading threads in the intro text on the forum homepage? It'll stop them getting buried so far back in the discussions that noone can find them. It would also serve to clarify and reinforce the "no corporate trading" rule.

My thoughts on harmonica mics:

If you're going to play acoustic then get a Sennheiser 441. It's the only dynamic mic that will reproduce how you sound natually.

I also love the Byer Dynamic M160 ribbon mic. This mic works well through an amp as well.

For amped playing. I like the EV-RE10 EV-660 Shure SM57

for bullet mics, I wouldn't bother with anything you can buy commercially. Get one from a mic tech like Dennis Gruenling. Dennis gave me an old turner mic with a cherry picked shure CM element in it. When I want to have that sound, nothing beats it. Kim Wilson loved this mic too.

I'm not at all impressed with the Fireball.

The Fireball WOULD be all right if it had more OOMPH or PUNCH.

Lol. That's alright. The search engine just looks for the best fit, not the most timely. :)
