I just wanted to drop a public THANK YOU to Greg Heumann for his great work chopping my old Shure 545S and creating an Ultimate 545 mic.
Last night I gigged with it for the first time. Our band has two guitars, sax, trumpet, bass, drums -- and me. I ran the mic into my (miked) Marble Max amp. I had no problem cutting through the mix and being heard.
Of course it retained all the punch and honk that made me love the 545S in the first place, but now it's lighter, more modular thanks to the standard Switchcraft style 5/8" screw-on connector, and has the volume control to boot.
Gear-wise, this really is a golden age for us harp geeks. :-)

Yes, it is truly a golden age. I finally have good gear, amps, mics, a ton of harps. Now if I could only play worth a damn....

I've had a lo-z 545 Ultimate for over 3 years and it's hands down the best harp mic I've ever used. I like it so well i bought a spare since I gig quite a bit. But it's so durable and reliable, I've never had to use the spare.
And every other harp player who's played through it at a jam has raved about it and asked me where i got it. Terrific piece of gear.

Slightly OT, but I was reading an article the other day. Apparently a spy gadget company is working on wireless in mouth microphones. How long before this trickles down to the non-spy market? How's that for portable!
