Hi Guys, thought I would try and find out who is from where in an effort to perhaps link up and invite others who are close to a jam or something, maybe just to come over and share the knowledge.
I have tried to set up a small group to promote the Harmonica in my area from the National Harmonica League but was unsuccessful in doing so. The next best thing I thought was is there anyone close enough to just hook up together. I go to a blues Jam every month and I thought it would be a great idea to invite a new face along and share the experiences etc.

I guess the best thing is for every one who is interested to drop me aline or sign there name with a location like mine would be (oxharp - Oxford UK)

Sorry if this is taking up a valuable thread but its so dufficult to progress sitting on your own at home.

My email is russ.turner@ntlworld.com
My You tube name is oxharp, I have a few vids of me on there from the jams etc.

May be this is the way forward to meet and see where we are all at.
if not well it was just an idea.

Hi Russ. I know what you mean. I get the impression that over in the US everybody's out on their front porches or down in their woodsheds at night blowing the blues. But over here in the UK - nada. Nothing.

I'm only just over a year into the harp so I don't have enough experience or guts to get up and jam yet, if at all. I'm only doing it for a little fun and satisfaction.

I agree with what you say about linking up in order to progress and talk harp though. Unfortunately I'm too far away in North London but good luck with your quest.

Could be a business oportunity for you there. A Harp Players Networking Agency.

All the best.

Hello there Russ and Salmon,
My name is Oisin and I live in Leigh on Sea in Essex.
I currently attend 2 jams, one in Leytonstone at the Heathcote Arms (www.heathcotebluesjam.co.uk) which is on every wednesday and another in the Red Lion pub in Chelmsford which is every tuesday.
The Heathcote is probably the best Blues jam I know in london, brilliant musicians and a great friendly atmosphere. As well as this they record most of the songs played and show the highlights on their website along with photos of all of the jammers. They also have a link to their myspace site where they play even more of the jam tracks. I highly recommend this jam to anyone in the london/essex area.
The one in Chelmsford has only just started (by the same guy who runs the Heathcote!!) and in a way this is even better for me as I get to play about 10 tunes each night!!
For someone starting out you can't beat going to a jam as you get to learn not only to play better but a bit of stagecraft and you get some professional feedback on your playing.
I thought I was the only person in the UK playing harmonica until I went to a jam and it was great to meet other harp players...the friendliest people in the world, are we not?
We are a bit spolit here in Essex as there are a few other jams within a few miles of me and also one of the best blues clubs in the UK, Blues on the Farm in Billericay.
If you are coming down this way leave me a note here on the forum or drop me a note by clicking my name and I'll try and arrange to meet up at one of the jams.

Great Idea Oxharp.

Hi Everyone,
My name is Pete and I live in Morden, Surrey
(S.W. London)

There are quite a few jams around this area, in fact just about every night of the week except Friday and Saturday.
Jams are not only important as somewhere to go and play live with other musicians, if you are interested in forming a band this is where you find other musicians. I sing in two bands and most of the other members are guys I met at jam nights. These events are also a mine of information regarding equipment. You get to play through various amp/mic combinations and talk to other players about their gear.
My supply of reeds for fixing broken harps comes from people I meet at jams. They give me their dud harps and I fix one of them as payment.
The amp tech who looks after all my gear (as well as harp amps I have keyboard and pa amps) is also someone I met at a jam.

So, if anyone wants to meet up in the S.W. London area you can email me at peterblue.soul@gmail.com

I am also form Oxford - Like Oxharp but live in North London - like Salmon.

:)

Anyway, I've only been playing a couple of years and am just plucking up the courage to play out somewhere. I know "A'int Nothing But The Blues" in Soho has a jam on Monday's, thought I might try that one out.

Oxharp, where is the session in Oxford you go to?

Good to see these Britaish Harp players coming outta the woodshed. I've been playing nearly two years but haven't put in the practice to be proficient (youtube Mcdookus and please dont laugh) Thought it'd be easy blowing a tin sandwich with ten holes in it. I live in Maple Cross (M25 J17).There's one jam in my area at the end of the month but I haven't the guts to get up yet. Only seen one harp player there and that was six months ago. Anyone going to see Paul Lamb in Whetstone on the 13th sept.

Hi Guys

I'm Chris from near Croydon in Surrey. I've only just started, so I'm not really up to jamming yet, but I'd be interested in meeting up with other harp players, I can just about manage a tune on a guitar.
