You said that you have built a number of small amps based in the 386 chip. I just built mine and only get silence..I have about 3v coming out of pin 5 when there should be about 4.5v.
I did this on a breadboard so there are no shorts to worry about. Did you have any issues with yours and can you offer any tips?
Thanks much.

Hmmm... Could be a faulty chip, but likely you've got a connection crossed or not made. Check your schematic again and make sure you've connected everything the right way. Also, make sure all the leads are inserted all the way into the breadboard holes. Check that you inserted the chip the right way round (I do that from time to time!). If it still doesn't work, pull all the components out of the breadboard and try again from scratch. If you STILL get nothing, then think about buying another chip. Sorry I can't be of more help than that! These circuits DO work, so it's got to be something simple wrong with it... ----------

Also make sure you've got your MPF102 pinout done the right way. There are different patterns to collector, drain, emittor for differnt types of transistors, so be sure you get the pinout for the MPF102! ----------

I think you are right but darn if I can find the problem. I am going to do a redo and start with the simplistic build and once that is working, add the other features one at a time....
And I thought this schematic was simple!

Welcome to the wonderful world of hobby electronics! :) It gets easier over time, but each build is still a challenge, no matter how simple it looks! But stick with it! Think of the huge sense of accomplishment you will feel when IT WORKS! :) ----------

Simple mistakes can be the hardest to find. I was building a circuit yesterday using logic chips and spent about 2 hours trying to figure out why it wasn't working, it turned out that the ground 0v on one of the chips was not pushed in properly. Keep at it and like Isaac says its a great feeling seeing everything work.

What is frustrating is that you spend all this time and make it really clean and it still does not work while you see some builds on YouTube that have all these wires running all over the place with alligator clips and it is a real mess bit it WORKS!
Thanks for the encouragement!

Check twice, solder once :-)
