Hey folks, after using my Hohner Hoodoo Box (with vastly upgraded valves obviously) for a while now I love it. Love it, that is, except for the way it looks.
Im not a fan of the black leather type look on amps, my favourite looking amps are the Fender Champion 600, the Gretsch G5222, Belcat V15G.
I basically like cream colours, tweed, and two tone light brown leathers and such.
Would there be any way to 're-skin- my Hoodoo Box so to speak? I am used to making modifications to my gear, but always in the sense of electronics, soldering mods etc and never the basic physical housing of the unit.
Any advice on whether this is feasible or too much of a headache to bother with would be sweet, also best materials and techniques to go about it. Even if anyone knows an amp modder who would do it for a price, though this might be prohibitively expensive in shipping as I am Scottish.

Hi Kvetch i can see any reason why it would be a bad idea, there are some great tolex's on the market, like brown country and western, fender rough blonde, alligator, tweed, vinyl tweed, you can also use two colours but then it gets tricky attaching them, I use a lot of them on my custom cases but i get my guitarist to recover my amps as he knows what he's doing with the electronics, in case anything gets knocked or broken when removing all the parts. he has all the testing gear and plastic welder etc.
I am in the uk if you want to ask any questions about applying tolex etc

Vanity? Who cares? When you walk in the room does anybody really notice the two-tone tolex? God forbid tweed -is it a real one?
Oh, wait, yeah, I notice. That's why, 15 years ago, I put the bad ass cover on my 60 Concert.

Lmao Littoral, I know where your coming from, as I am most happy with the amp now. A new tolex is just icing on the cake really. The only thing I can see difficult about the hoodoo box is the front panel is a pain compared to the rest of the housing. Ill find a way Im sure.
If anyone has any tips/stories on reskinning an amp Id be happy to hear em :)
