From the Elk River Institute of Advanced Harmonica Studies, historical myths about the harmonica. It was a really fun page to make.. and I'll be adding to it in the future.

"Not everything you see in print or on the Internet about harmonica history - including quotes from famous people about harmonicas - is true. In fact, most of it is bollocks, lmao." - Robert E. Lee, 1864.
Until recently discovered by ERIFAHS, Lee's quote had been lost to history, thanks to the Mary Todd e-mail worm, which the Army of the Potomac used to disable Confederate e-mail servers during the seige of Petersburg and Richmond. Lee's original quote ended with "lmfao," but I had to edit that "F" out. Kids read these pages sometimes.

Oh, yes, and Abe Lincoln played the harmonica... read on...

I picked this up on FB and was going to make a thread if you hadn't posted first.

'If you're the German Army, you've got 25 million on your side and 42 million on the other side shooting at you, somebody is bound to get a direct hit in the harmonica.'

Lol in real life!

Very good.

I don't know if Mythbusters has ever tackled the subject, but it would be an interesting episode to see if different objects people carried in their pockets actually stopped bullets. I've heard myths for flasks, harmonicas, and decks of cards. They could use period guns for each myth.

I did quite a bit of testing on this. I found that a harmonica will redirect a bullet that comes in from a angle, kind of like skipping a stone on water. Direct hit goes right through and I was using the same stuff the British were using in both World Wars, the Enfield .303. I was also using British Army ammunition.
Maybe this winter I'll take a deer ribcage, fill it full of ballistics gel. Put a shirt on it and a harmonica in the pocket and open fire. That's what the mythbusters would do.

I'm now wetting myself laughing!

My dad was Canadian and used to tell a story of when he came back from WWII and shot the guts out of a deer with a Thompson by accident. He had it on auto and thought it was on single shot.

Due to my dad, I'm actually a Canadian citizen. I've just got to apply.

This thread has inspired me. I want to do cool shit like this!

Let's do it Steve. This is precisely what our founding fathers had in mind when they drafted the Bill of Rights.
