i saw an ad for a local player whom was described as a virtuoso. the guy is good but....:) anyway, obviously McCoy is a virtuoso, but i find terms like virtuoso, genius, harmonica master etc. used rather loosely in certain cases.
i'd be interested to see who other members of MBH consider virtuosos. not obvious choices so much as below the general radar harp players

I'm not sure a harmonica virtuoso (in the truest sense of the word) could actually exist below the general radar harp players, unless they were socially backwards and hiding in plain site...I can't think of any, there are probabbly quite a few of them I'm unaware of though. One or two may show up at HCH?
If you do not go to SPAH you might not know about James Conway. I disagree with Frank, the longer I go, the more I become aware of great players I have never heard of.
Well, listen to the kid on the right middle, Joshua King, ten years old, the stages's king. He gives the start to the other musicians and knows about harp: maybe a "future legend"?
Charlie McCoy would be amongst my top 3 favourite players. The others being Buddy Greene & Mickey Raphael. There are of course many others but none of the above I would describe as being virtuosos.Charlie is a legend.
As I see it a virtuoso is not only technically skilled in theory, plus is a maestro on their instrument in being able to take it and make it from opera house and concert hall to a blues bar, Also be a skilled composer & able to forge new directions for their instrument skills & knowledge. Such a person ie a virtuoso may be 'above' others in a way that their music transcends but fails to move emotively.
