This is the 'final' mix of this song which the band plans to release in a couple of weeks (just 1 track on a 6 track EP).

i have a view but maybe i'm not objective. its not a serious song, obviously...the Muddy Turds are not that kind of band...more of a comic punk cabaret act, and i guess this is a small parody of a genre most of the audience will have heard of but know nothing about...still i think id mix it differently...

i hope you can listen past the opening, i know those opening harp lines are ####

Disclaimer- the following is nitpicking.

The back vocal is kind of hard to hear, especially before I put on the headphones. There could be more separation in the instruments. I can hear those sorts of things, but I have a much harder time fixing them. The harp could sound a little grittier in a couple spots to go with the gritty sound.

Still, it's fun to listen too. It's very Weird Al meets George Thorogoody. :)

I had the same reaction as Nate. Nice tone on the harp, but the way it's recorded doesn't quite match the band's sound, it's not as edgy. Agree on the backing vocals also, she's lost in the mix.

Now I will have the opposite reaction. I listened on my iPhone without headphones. Certainly NOT the way to judge these things, but the backup vocals seem very odd in the mIx. They stood out in an odd way like this was a backing track the backup singer was recording against. I would rethink the placement and/or effects on the backup vocal track regardless....

I agree with the last on the vocals but I am listening with a phone so I could be wrong

Harp sounds solid but muffled needs more presence. Kind of in a way reminds me off the bosstones but the horn lines they had good success with we're much more brash and cutting.

With some polish that punk ska swing material that was on the rise for quite some time is not far off. Just in this mix tge harp seems a fair bit mellow against the rest of the mix.

That kind of sound is really hard to translate from live as it is totally a live experience visceral sound. Clarity would go such a long way

Just my 2 cents. Id imagine the band is fantastic for the rock club/bar scene.

Good comments all, much appreciated.
Yep what I play is definitely a bit out of kilter with the band, I really didn't know if it would work, took a real act of will to do it if you know what I mean.
Again, thanks for listening and taking the trouble to comment. I think I probably learned something to move ahead with.

these are just some videos that are worth checking out slightly different genre but can be reasonably seen as related

similar idea not harmonica but the horn section is good to hear. I get more inspiration from listening to sax and trumpet and trombone than harmonica anyway.

thanks for the links. working through them...looks like we are finally getting it back on the road...lost our female member to maternity :/ as you do...
but now auditioning actress/singers
the front guys for this band...one is a contortionist/sword swallower, the other is an acrobat/clown...lucy was a great singer and outrageous stage prescence, who brought an extra dimension, stopped it being a complete sausage-fest...and her un-availability looked set to shut it down for awhile...its a pretty funny show i think..we play anywhere we can but our hometown is only 250000 people and the whole island only 500k...so we try to spread it about a bit and take it to the mainland at least once a year...there is no money in it, but no-one is out of pocket either...i am nearly 50, and the others pushing 30...i think its helping me stay young-ish...either that or its aging me prematurely..
