I loaned my bugle to a boy scout and have been missing it a bit. I just realized that holes 3-7 blow on the harmonica match the standard used in bugle calls.
I have been having fun playing revelle, to the colors, taps and others. It dosn't cut through the morning mist and come boucing back at me off the hills like the bugle does but it is fun none the less.

I'd noticed that too. It can be fun. The only ones I know are Taps, Revelle and Charge. At one point I looked a bunch of bugle calls up with the intention of learning more, but I never got around to it. On a valved brass instrument they can all be played all in open position, which it turns out, is a string of blow holes on the harp. :)

You can play them in second position, too.

I have a cool little pocket book I ordered though my local music store with bugle calls and tunes. It is about 70 pages and has calls for things like get off your horse, get on your horse, turn right, turn left, go to church, go swimming and things I would never have imagined as well as some bugle tunes. I was also surprized to see 3 part harmony for revelie and some of the other more familiar calls. I have never had occasion to play with other buglers though.
