I'm about to buy a Zoom G3. I'm about to change my beloved Pocket Pod, for the "new kid on the block". I think that it will be a step towards in sound quality, versatility, and even for playing it live trough a PA, thanks to the balanced output.
I know Isaac and others have followed this path and are quite happy with the Zoom. I have seen Isaac videos and I'm impressed by the quality of the looper + effects. What I'm looking now is to ask for the sound quality of the AMP SIMS for the harmonica. Do you really think that it's worth it? COmpared to the Pocket Pod, would I really be improving in this regard?
Pocket Pod technology es quite dated in this moment, I believe it dates back to 2005-2006 (6 years in technology terms is a lot of time!)
I'm looking for some cool amplified harmonica blues style. I'm not too purist, nor too modern. I'm just looking for a full sound (not too saturated). What I don't like much about the pod it that it lacks life, its kind of shrill and boxy.
Could this improve with the Zoom g3?'
here is a sample of me using the pocket Pod + Bullet Mic recording to the PC. I like this sound, but I'm not fully happy.
If anyone has anything to say, I would really appreciate it.
I'm about to buy it, but asking for some previous advice is probably a wiser thing to do.
Thanks in advance,
Camilo
PD: If anyone has a sound sample of the zoom g3 for amplified playing I would love to hear it.

Well, you mentioned my videos by name, so you clearly listened to those... I've found I'm able to get a great amped tone out of the G3. So far the best ones have been the Bassman model, the Vox model, and the Super Reverb model... I think the amped tones I can get from the G3 easily meet those I got from the Rp155 I used to own, and, since the G3 is WAAAAAAAY easier to tweak, in many respects I can get a BETTER amped tone from it because I can easily dial it in for different venues/sounds, just like with a real amp...
I've never owned a POD so I can't compare them directly, but listening to your sound clip, I'm confident you can find a sound that you will be VERY happy with from the G3. Have a listen to the three videos I just posted over in my thread on busking in PHX, and you'll get an impression of some of the amped tones I use... I do use a low-z mic, so my tone will be different than the one you get with your Bullet... ---------- == I S A A C ==
Hey Camilo, how is the G3 going? I haven't had much time to play with mine although I've had it a while now. At first I had trouble dialing in a good amp sound, but then I just read up on what you have to do with real amps and applied that to the amp models. I.e., turn the treble right down, leave the mid range in the middle and crank the bass right up. Then bring the gain up as far as you can before feedback. I agree that the Bassman (aka US Blues), Vox AC30 and Vibroverb models all are nice. I've even applied the same procedure to some of the "high gain" amp models, which provide more crunch. With the G3 you can easily switch back and forth between amp models to get the kind of sound you want and still have a couple of other effects in the chain. I like the Analog Reverb. And I like not having to risk deafness to get a pretty reasonable amped sound.
However, I remain impressed by the sound I can get out of my little battery powered Vox DA5. If I'm not using a looper, I will just use that. And I use it on the AUX in port with the G3. ----------
