any harp player.....who would you choose ? Yes i'd like to be able to jump up on stage and be Little Walter incarnate, but given the kind of bands and music that most(?) of us have to deal with these days ie loud drummers ,SRV clones ...even he would be a bit overwhelmed. I'd like to be able to sound like Mark Ford http://youtu.be/xyRuejzGJgg and for the other side to him have a listen to his version of Summertime Its that sound that when he takes his mouth off the mike the harp is still playing.. http://youtu.be/xyRuejzGJgg

Todd.
No ass kissing here. I just think he's the most soulful player out there and has consummate style and taste with what he plays. Too many players want to be technicians rather than musicians, but I don't think that's the case with Todd. My taste in music is soul, funk, disco (!!!), gospel and blues, so my musical preferences deeply inform my choice.

I don't want to play like just "one" person... I like more than just blues.
I would prefer to be a combination of Norton Buffalo, Gary Primich, David Barrett, Carlos del Junco, and PT Gazell... and may as well add Buddy Greene to the mix too !

I'd like to be able to play like Jason Ricci, so I can play everything that I can hear in my head, but can't quite get a harp to sound like.

I agree with willspear and I have been doing just that for about 15 years. The best and most frequent compliment I have recieved is: Man that was great where did you learn to play like that! Answer Don't just learn harp parts to songs. Learn how to play music on the harmonica! Most of the people mentioned above have done the same thing!

Hey Rubes! Speaking of Aussies, you ever run in to Victor Polyik of VP and the Hammerheads? He used to be up here in Vancouver, jammin' at the Cottage Bistro.

Louis Armstrong crossed with Jason Ricci crossed with some of the weirder stuff that I do, all tied together with that sort of driving beat that Adam does so well, except when I'm doing Celtic stuff. Then I want to sound like Brendan Power crossed with Son of Dave. A little Mr. Woodnote and Dub FX thrown in would be cool.
I know not all of those are harp players, but I'm really influenced (or would like to be) by horns and looping.

For me it's more of a challenge to be able to play 'as good as' some players rather than to be able to play 'like them'. Players I most admire are Buddy Greene, Charlie McCoy & Mickey Raphael. ---------- HARPOLDIE’S YOUTUBE
