Hi, I was wondering what do you use as a reed wrench? I know that some people sell this tool (i.e UST), but it is to expensive for me (the price of the item + the oversea shipping make the purchase cost almost as a new harp, or more), and I am searching for a replacement of the real ones. Any of you have a tool that works for this and can be found on any local store? Thxs!

These are easy enough to make on your own. All you really need is a small file (though a rotary cutter like a dremel will make it much easier) and some "stock" in which to file/cut-out the wrench-notch. A lot of people take a normal "swiss army" style knife, and file down the existing tools in it to make harp tools. They typically turn the flat-head screwdriver/bottle opener into a reed wrench. Me, I happened to have some decent metal shim stock around, so I just made my reed wrench out of that...
FYI, it's good to have a couple, since different manufacturer's reed rivet-pads are of slightly different sizes....

The seydel session 3 pack with the UST tool is definately worth the money as you get an awesome tool that does everything and not only that but the info on the usb stick is excellent and not to forget the free seydel tuner software that is top class included on the usb too.

Take a plate that you want to work with to a car parts store--look for a little end wrench that fits--they do exist--just a little hard to find. . . ----------

I use a $3 feeler gauge set. I cut slots in the center/top and make reed wrenches and use the really thin ones as shims/plinking tools. The cool thing about the reed wrenches is they are the same size as a small-pattern 0-80 nut which is what I use on reed plates. ---------- Greg Jones 16:23 Custom Harmonicas greg@1623customharmonicas.com 1623customharmonicas.com

Gmaj7 - I use feeler gauges as well to make a knockoff of the UST embossing tool.
