Fixed the link for ya. I got a 404 when clicked the one in your post. Probably has to do with the fact that you used all caps! ;)

@oldwailer - The main page for the convention (one click away from the homepage) tells you:
--The correct dates (August 14-18) --The town (Irving, Texas) --The hotel (Westin Dallas-Forth Worth Hotel)
You can click the hotel link for more on the hotel.

"The main page for the convention (one click away from the homepage) tells you:
--The correct dates (August 14-18) --The town (Irving, Texas) --The hotel (Westin Dallas-Forth Worth Hotel)"
That's only part of the battle:
There are four different links to info about the convention on the home page, and each takes you to a different page. The link at the top of the page (Convention Info) takes you to a poster. Under "Upcoming Events" the link takes you to a page with no info about the location or hotels, and no links to that info. Under "SPAH News" there are two links to different elements of the convention, and one reference to "SPAH 2012" that isn't linked. You have to hunt around the page and just guess which link tells you when and where the convention is. It would be less frustrating and confusing, and more effective to have a banner on the SPAH home page advertising the dates & location (the critical info in a nutshell), and have the banner link to a single portal page to ALL information people need to plan to attend. More links doesn't equal better web page.
Nice looking site, but it needs tweaking.

timeistight,
it's hard but i will try to use the lower case letters. i've been an architect all my life & all we ever use are caps on our drawings. the engineers are the one's that use lower case. i'll try.

don't forget to vote for Winslow for SPAH president.

@LJ
Glad to help. And since you asked: The SPAH banner at the top of the page is hard on the eyes. The logo is cool, and the banner looks very nice, but white letters on red text are rarely a good combination. And left justified paragraphs are just hard to read; this one breaks up the name of the organization into three lines of hard-to-read text. It doesn't encourage reading, and the tag line is kinda boring, so there's not much reward for reading it.
If you must use white on red, I suggest you lose the drop shadows and justify to the left. You might flip the banner to make that look more balanced, or not. Also, simplify the text, and make it a little more fun. Put stuff about the non-profit nature elsewhere, maybe just below the banner, but link that to membership enrollment page. Here are two ideas illustrating my point. These don't have the nice shading of the current banner, but they give the idea (and it is only my opinion...):

The scientist asks, "How does it work?" Then engineer says, "I can make it work." Lots of other professions ask, "Would you like fries with that?"

Hi easyreeder,
This is JP. I can't post right now (not a member yet, waiting for approval). Thanks for your input. I'll take that all under advisement, but in the meantime, I wanted to address a couple points:
There are four different links to info about the convention on the home page, and each takes you to a different page. The link at the top of the page (Convention Info) takes you to a poster.
Actually, you should also see a general message right next to that poster with information about the convention: where it is, who is hosting it, links to online registration, the registration packet and the hotel's reservation page. If you don't see that at all, please let me know.
Under "Upcoming Events" the link takes you to a page with no info about the location or hotels, and no links to that info.
Good point. I'll fix that.
Well, there's certainly no intention to create more links when fewer will do. However, the "Upcoming Events" column only shows a certain number of events at one time. Ditto with the "SPAH News" column. Eventually, any SPAH convention info in those columns will roll off that page, and having a dedicated area for it seemed like a good idea. And we will have a banner soon, it's just still in the process of being created. In the meantime, all of the convention information is available on or from the very first link in the top menu: http://spah.org/content.asp?pl=20&contentid=20.
At this point, I have to kind of weasel my way out of some of the criticism by saying that we are using a template provided to us by the membership organization whose software we use, so I'm limited in what I can do with the pages to some extent. So I can't add more banner spaces for example, or change the banner spaces we do have. But again, all of the convention info really is available on that first Convention Info link. If you don't see it, send me a screenshot of what you do see and I'll see if I can fix the problem. My email is hheditor AT mac DOT com.
Thanks,
JP Pagán

i didnt see it as negative campaigning. i read it as "this is what we have available to work with at the moment."
