I would like to solicit some input from forum members about color preferences on Corian combs.
I made a small run of 50 Corian combs about month or two ago. I wanted to see how they would turn out from my CNC milling vendor. I am very pleased and am ready to place another order.
I kinda picked some colors at random in the first batch. One of the colors that was strongly suggested to me was Mandarin Orange. I was skeptical but without going into detail, I have been wrong on so many occasions about what people would like and what they wouldn't that I have learned to put my own personal taste aside and listen to others. True to form, the Mandarin Orange sold out the fastest. Shows you what I know.
In light of the fact that I obviously have no fashion sense or feel for aesthetics I wonder if I can impose upon you to offer some suggestions. If you feel so inclined, please list four or five colors that would appeal to you. I will not interpret your participation in this informal survey as a commitment to buy and if I wind up making a color you suggest and it flops I won't hold it against you. Fair enough?
Thanks in advance.
Tom

I guess Todd's the one to ask on this one :)
Although I have never bought a comb, and my opinion is therefore perhaps not that relevant, I'd go for Black, Deep Blue, Grey perhaps. And Orange of course, but I'm Dutch, so that was predictable..

I'd like probably most anything that has multiple colors in it. Fake granite looking stuff...blues, oranges, rainbow, etc.

The prettiest harmonica I ever saw was a Bends with a clear acrylic comb, black covers and a silver inlay. The reed plate was recessed so you didn't see any of the brass really. I did my best to recreate it with Piedmont covers and a clear acrylic comb. It actually looked really nice, even after the gold paint wore off the Piedmont. Unfortunately, the acrylic comb, which I got from a supplier in Russia, cracked by one of the screw holes and the Piedmont covers muted the sound too much.
Translucent combs tinted the same color as the covers would be pretty slick.

Jimbo. Not sure about black Corian with flames, how about cover plates. Would you have an interest in black covers with flames? ----------

I think a lot of people would be interested in black covers. I know i would. I could do without the flames but it might be cool to have on one.
Why doesn't anyone sell aftermarket combs for Suzuki? I like the Suzuki Manji and bluesmaster/harpmaster combs, but it would be nice to have a color choice. If I could buy Suzuki combs in the color I wanted I would put in an order for at least 8 or 10 right now.

I have combs for Suzuki. As of this moment I have them in 10 different acrylic colors. Here is the link to my ebay listing.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200738010176#ht_1088wt_952
Since I created this listing, I have added 3 new colors - purple, green and royal blue - which I have not had time to add to my listings yet.
I also make powder coated cover plates for all models of Hohner. I have a few HarpMaster and a few Lee Oskar cover plates in stock as well. As of this moment, I have cover plates available in the following colors: Gloss Black Gloss White Translucent Red Translucent Blue Moon Stone Purple Green Bronze/Gold
The last three colors are recent arrivals and I have not had time to post any pictures of them yet.
Here's a link to one of my eBay listings for powder coated covers.

Any more suggestions about Corian colors?
Thanks, Tom ----------

I just looked at the powder coat covers... the speckled ones are kind of neat. They look kind of like sparrow eggs. Do you have a comb that matches?
I'd kind of like to come up with a theme that lets me figure out which harp is which. I wouldn't be able to buy them all at once, but I'd like to have the color scheme in place first. ROY G BIV and have the flats speckled? Ideas anyone?

To tell you the truth - the color coded key system is what inspired me to make the powder coated cover plates. When I began offering acrylic combs about a year ago I offered four colors. Then guys started asking me for more colors because they told me they were creating a color coded key system. I did make more colors and as mentioned above now have 10 different color acrylic combs in stock and ready to ship immediately. I have 8 different colors of powder coated combs. In addition to the acrylic, I have 4 different kinds of wood comb, 2 colors of aluminum 4 colors of Corian. The original purpose of this thread was to get some help with Corian colors for my next run of combs. I'll probably get 6-8 colors done. I have acquired the majority of the cover plates by cannibalizing bunches of pre-owned harps. Therefore I have an ample supply of reed plates that have been cleaned and sanitized and are ready to be used. When you figure that there are 12 basic keys and all the other components I have available, there are over 15,000 possible combinations. It is simply up to your imagination for you to create something that is unique and personal.
And to answer your question about speckled Corian, I'll put it on the list and see what is available. ----------

I do have solid green acrylic combs but to answer your question directly, Corian is the brand name that duPont uses for a material which is primarily an acrylic product. It has come to be used much in the same way that we say "Kleenex" when we mean a tissue. With that said, here is the link to the "Colors of Corian" website for you to see the colors that are available.

The supplier that I am using also has product available from HiMacs and Wilson Art. Here are the links to their respective websites.

All of those are fine choices. I kinda like the Black Onyx Mirage but if you refer to the beginning of this thread, I have no taste. ----------

Corain is a cast polymer. This class of materials is cast and cures at room temperatures. Ground stone is frequently added to the mix to give a stone like apearance. Has anyone tried casting combs from polymers? They would need a finish pass after curing to flatten them but it would open up some interesting color options such as swirls and/or including small things like shells or beads for decorative purposes or a fiber loading to attempt to get a more wood like response (kind of like Suzuki does with the injection molded Manji comb Reasearch would be required to chose a non toxic polymer.

I've thought about casting. I haven't done any research yet but I'm guessing the making of molds would be fairly expensive. If you're willing to pay $100 a comb I could give it a go. :) ----------

I think Aggie Maroon would be a nice color and only appropriate given the amount of money a particular A&M graduate has spent w/Blue Moon....!
