Here I play the blues in G on 8 different harmonicas and positions that I think sounds cool. I wanted to make a video to inspire and to show the differences in sound between position and harmonicas.
The models used are:

Olive, Harpmaster, Pure Harp, Hammond, Manji.

Hope you like it,

I did like. What positions?
Edit: Just saw your comments about this on YouTube. I could guess the first few positions maybe, but not all.

Were you able to work that out from the sound Todd or were there visual clues? That's what sorts the men from the boys. I need to go change my diaper :o)

My ears will never ever be that good.

@tookatooka - I was able to tell the positions by ear, partly because I play some in all 12 myself. When you do this, you learn which notes you're able to use more expression on - just like when you play in 2nd, you can tell when someone is in 2nd because of the emphasis or expression on the 4 draw bend, 2, 3, etc. So it's a matter of familiarity that comes with practice.

There were also clues in this video at times when Flip let a little bit of the chord be heard, which was kind of a giveaway as to what key was being used. When I hear a note on the piano, I can tell you what note it is (perfect pitch). Some say this is a natural gift, but I believe you can learn to do this with practice as well. So, when I hear a harmonica chord, or even part of a chord, I can tell what harp is being used.

And as I already mentioned, Filip does a great job with all of these positions. He is truly a great player!

This is fantastic. I've been learning the blues scale in positions 1 thru 6 but he goes way beyond that. I find minor blues in 12th to be tough.

Sounds like he used overblows and /or overdraws in every position. Really smooth. Hats off!

Thanks ! happy you like it.
Todd is right on - good ears!
One can really train the ears to amazing levels. Its just about listening very closely and to different colous and timbres. And to have patience.

@ej - Hammond is almost like the Promaster.

Nice playing. You seem to have more of a beard than your last video. Does that help with tone? :)

Seriously nice playing.

To be honest I listened to this [not watched] while I was doing something else at work and I didn't realise that he was changing harps.

@nate if the beard helps tone I'd hate to think what I'd sound like without mine ;^)

Filip Jers, that is an excellent showcase of positions! From watching your other great videos on Youtube and seeing your comic prowess, I propose an ideal...

Do this cool switching whilst bungee jumping and each time you spring back up someone hands you a different harp and off you go...

Seriously Filip Jers - I would love to see more videos like this from great and good players showing others through "visual and audio" what reading from a typed thread, just doesn't convey...

Thank you for taking the time to make this video and share it, it is very, very helpful. I hope others take your lead.

Thanks for the great feedback!

Of course a good beard helps for tone, it takes away that sharp 4700 hz.. :)

Happy to inspire and share - please share ideas of more stuff to record and I see what I can do.
