I saw Todd in a recent video on this forum and then noticed on the for-sale pages that he is now giving Skype lessons. I went to his site, read his bio, checked out some more videos and scheduled a lesson. We finished about an hour ago. I must say that he was very instructive and entertaining. I've said it before, but it bears repeating. There is no substitute for having a professional evaluate you, give you guidance and set some goals according to what you want to ultimately accomplish. I've had some lessons with Ronnie Shellist and this recent one with Todd, and I feel both have been a big help to me. I'm sure the other teachers listed on this site are equally capable.

Todd seems like the sort of guy who'd be a good teacher. He's level headed and likes to share what he knows, and he knows a lot. That's a pretty good formula for a good teacher. :)

What I've found intriguing since being a member here is the diverse areas of interest ancillary or collateral to the blues. For instance, Ronnie is a Chicago-style blues guy. Todd is a blues guy but has some country influence and hence maybe a little different perspective. I would like to spend some time with Adam or Walter or another one-man-act guy to get their insights. Some may dabble in jazz or gospel. I think any of these people can teach the instrument, but I'm trying to open my mind to other perspectives.

Yeah, that's one of the great things about the forum. I read a great article once on why it was a good idea to have people with a varied backgrounds work in the same place. You get a cross-pollination of ideas. The guy who worked in a metal shop knows how to do his thing, the guy with the music theory knows how to do his thing, and the guy with the math degree knows how to do his thing, but you put them in the same room and the one guy says "I wish our product could do this" and the other guy says "Yeah, but then you'd have this problem" and the third guy chimes in, "Not if you do it this way!" And suddenly you have a different harmonica tuning, or a blues song with a dash of blues, soul, country and techno all rolled into one.

(I noticed as I was typing this I said 'guy' all three times. That seems to be one area we have a hard time keeping diverse, for whatever reason.)

I talked with Todd at length at the Tulsa Harp Summit. He was so approchable and engaging. All the other pro's there had tables selling stuff, Todd didnt, he just went around talking to people and helping us all with whatever issues we had.
Nothing against the others selling their products, but it was really cool the way he was just one of the guys.
Then he got up on stag, I'm sure you have seen the video's, and blew us all away, playing through the pa. The guy is special in so many ways.
As soon as I get a Spiers harp im going to get a lesson on overblows because he was showing me some stuff at the show that was so cool.
