Jon,

How long have you been playing? Whereabouts in Eastern PA, I might be able to lead you to a cool harmonica club & some places that have open mic jams.

Where in Eastern PA? Emile D'Amico lives in Philly & is on this forum. If you're looking for in person, in Eastern PA harmonica lessons I couldn't recommend anybody more.

His email is: Emile Damico oatss_oatflakes @ yahoo . com

I'm in Hamburg, PA...near Allentown/Reading area.

State College and Philly may be too far to run weekly though.

I guess I am an intermediate player??? Have been playing one for a long time..but kind of in my own way. So I would like to go back to basics I think.

There are a number of people who give Skype lessons also.
They're listed on this site. I have personally had several with Ronnie Shellist and recommend him highly. I have an upcoming lesson with Todd Parrot sometime this week. Face-to-face instruction...even if it's monitor-to-monitor...is invaluable in my opinion.

@Ryan...I have a question for ya. I'm in Philly for the PLA conference @ the convention center. Brought my bag of harps & plan on playing on the street by the fine arts school after we shut down tomorrow around 5PM. So, my question is, if I'm playing acoustic will the local fuzz give me a hard time? I won't be busking/ per say, as I won't have a tip jar out. Just playin to blow off some steam & have a good time.

Seth Holtzman, aka Zep Harpo, in Philly. He's worth the trip.

@2chops you should be ok. I know exactly where you'll be.
PAFA is across the street from the convention center or near it on Broad ST.

I used to commute from Philly to NY to study with Robert Bonfiglio.

Seth Holtzman lives in Ardmore & would be the same trip for you. I'm not sure if Kudzu has taken any lessons from Seth but I have quite a few. I suggest if you do decide to take the trip you try a lesson or two from Seth & Emile to see which teacher better fits your learning style & goals.

You can take hour long bi-weekly lessons. That's actually quite a lot to practice for a working man/woman

Jibberjazz, I live in Reading. There's also a Philly harmonica club that meets once a month usually weekday evenings. I could tell you some places to blues open mic jam in Philly as well.

Another option is if you have good internet connection & a webcam I've found skype lessons darn near as good as in person. Plus you save on gas & get even more options for teacher.

I'm no teacher but I'd be up for hanging out, talking harp, & jamming sometime if you were interested. I'm the best harmonica player I know within an hour drive of where I live, lol, but that's not saying much.

Ryan,

I sent you a friend request on facebook. May try to get together for a jam session sometime.

Also, noticed the Tom Waits lyrics on your profile. Hell yes!

@diggsblues...did a few tunes Thursday afternoon. Played for 20 minutes or so during my lunch break on Fri. Not only did the police not mind my playing, one of the boys in blue seemed to enjoy it. He was hanging out & watching for a while & then moved on. Thanks for the tip.

i suggest dont watch tv dont listen to the radio or music. isolate yourself. like learning a language you pick an actor and you base your spanish etc voice on them. pick one artist a harp god like sonny boy. listen to nothing but that till it comes out your ears. carry the harp with you everywhere. get some simple tabs like negro spirituals. go to isolated places to practice far from people like the woods, under a bridge, close to a body of water is best. this may take a year but sooner or later you will start blowing your chosen harp gods riffs.
